BALLSTON SPA - Edward J. Apholz, 97, passed away on Thursday, May 25, 2017, surrounded by his loving family. Born in Glenville, New York on May 28, 1919, he was the son of Frank and Alice (Bohensky) Apholz. He was an Army veteran of World War II.

Ed was an operating gineer and a member of Local 106 in Albany for 61 years.He worked on the constructi­on of the Northbuild­ings way I87, I88 and many of the local roads, schools, churches and commercial in the area.

He was predecease­d by the love of his life, his wife Nancy B. (McDonald) Apholz who he married in 1941. They enjoyed 60 happy years together. He was also predecease­d by infant daughter, Colleen Apholz, 2 infant sisters, sister EvApholz elyn Parizo, brother Robert and his parents.

Ed is survived by six children; Kenneth (VictoPort ria Mills) Apholz of Orange FL, Raymond Apholz of Corinth, WilEias liam H Apholz of Ballston Spa, Ronald A. (Sharon) Apholz of Ballston Spa, leen Apholz of Johnstown and Suzanne Malesky (Ray Patterson) of Weyers Cave, VA. He is also survived by 19 grandchild­ren, 46 great grandchild­ren and 5 great grandchild­ren, well as several nieces and nephews.

Ed, also known as Pa and Poppy, will be remembered as a gentle man of great integrity whose generous loving spirit and ready smile made him beloved by so many. He was a master mechanic who could build, repair and operate any maknown chinery or vehicle to man. His skills, knowla edge and ability to work and create with his hands were unmatched. He was called upon so often by so many for help with project or problem; he never turned down a call for assistance from famspendli­thim. ily, friends and neighbors, day or night. His greatest accomplish­ment was his family. He enjoyed ing time with them, telling stories and making jokes. He especially loved the tle ones, whose pockets he would fill with chocolate candy as he sent them on their way. He will be dearly missed by all who knew

Funeral services will be held 10am Wednesday, May 31, at Armer Funeral Home, Inc., 39 East High Street, Ballston Spa. Burial will follow in Memory Garfuneral dens, Colonie. Relatives and friends are invited to call on Tuesday, May 30 from 4pm to 8pm at the home.
