Horse Symposium covers many topics
BALLSTON SPA, N.Y. >> The 26th annual Saratoga Horse Symposium brought people from throughout the region to the 4-H Training Center in Ballston Spa recently.
The event saw presenters share valuable information on a variety topics such as acupuncture, saddle fitting, equine liability, training techniques and Lyme disease.
One session focused on the newly emerging trend of using essential oils as a component of horse training.
Another discussed techniques for retraining off-thetrack thoroughbreds, as more horse owners in Saratoga County are finding themselves with young thoroughbreds who were trained primarily to race.
The symposium, for new, aspiring and experienced horse owners alike, gave people a chance to interact with horses, equine veterinarians and presenters alike.
There were also live horse demonstrations.
People attended from upstate New York and New England. Visitors could take part in a silent auction featuring items such as gift certificates, photographs, supplies and grain.
The symposium is part of the Cornell Cooperative Extension Equine program. All proceeds from this fundraiser directly benefit educational equine programming and the 4-H Training Center.
