Nuclear power plants atop Mount McGregor? You’ve got to be kidding. That is the most ridiculous proposal yet. Why not open the area for public use with family outings and hiking, allowing kids to get away from their computers for a change?

••• Kudos to Jeff and Cliff of the Saratoga public works department for replacing and tightening the bolts on the utility cover on Excelsior and Spring Avenue, which had been causing excessive noise for months as autos drove over it.

••• Yepsen chose not to run again, not just because she’s aware she’d lose, but because she wants to run against Elise Stefanik, touting her years of being mayor of Saratoga Springs. All of these rallies and protests against Stefanik by a leftist group, I saw them in a town hall in Wilton. Their leader, a long-haired, bearded Saul Alinksy wannabe, advised his comrades to sit in places all around the room to give the impression that their point of view is in the majority. Beware of Yepsen: just as leftist, but looking for a new venue.

••• What a relief to see the project proposed for the former Saratoga Diner site. It’s about time South Broadway saw some reinvestment and affordable apartments were part of the project equation, considering all the growth here in Saratoga. It’s about time.

••• Mayor Yepsen had a fundraising event only weeks before she announced that she was stepping down and not running for reelection. The key question is, will she return that money to her contributors, as she obviously should.

••• Many Americans are disillusioned with the failed Democratic liberal policy that over the past eight years under the globalist President only served cronies and elites while hanging middle America out to dry. The skyrocketing healthcare costs under Obamacare are one of the many disastrous progressive policies that have slammed the middle class. As a result, many Americans, including blue-collar workers, trust President Trump more than the Democrats to create jobs, keep us safe and get our economy back in order.

••• I rely on our volunteer firemen, but I resent Senator Machione getting free publicity with taxpayer dollars every time one of the firemen’s commercials is played. Is that even ethical?

••• I just want to thank The Saratogian for giving us Sound-Off. The reason that you get so many comments on problems is that if you try to get hold of someone “in charge” to express a problem, or even something nice, it’s almost impossible to get hold of everyone. If you put that in the paper, maybe they will see it and perhaps make an effort to be a little bit friendlier.

••• Listening to President Trump’s May 27 radio address, it was full of self-congratulation, with not one word on Memorial Day or the debt this nation owes to our veterans. Are we surprised? No, coming from a Commander-in-Chief who avoided military service.

••• No matter what Trump does as president, he’s going to get blamed for everything, no matter what happens. People just don’t like him and they don’t like that he won. I think you ought to give the guy a chance. At least he’s trying.

••• I’m calling in response to the comment about Pride being in June, asking when there’s going to be a Christian Family Month in Saratoga. I believe there are a lot of days that are flagged around Christian families. Easter, Christmas, All Saints’ Day, the forty days of Lent and Good Friday, not to mention that just being a Christian in general is a blessed day. So I think it’s okay that we give one week to the LGBT community, and as a Christian I think that’s a blessed month in Saratoga.

••• During the Obama years the National Security Agency intentionally and routinely intercepted and reviewed communications of all American citizens, in violation of the Constitution and courtordered guidelines implemented pursuant to federal law. The unlawful surveillance appears to have been a massive abuse of the government’s foreign-intelligence collection authority. Every one of us were spied on and our information was collected in the Obama years. Does anyone else see a problem with that?

••• I used to pride myself that I lived in a Saratoga area that was filled with both conservative and liberal educated people. After reading some Sound-Off columns, I am shocked at how uneducated and bigoted this area has become. It is just amazing. I don’t know where these people are coming from who call in, but I have never seen such bigoted and uneducated responses in my life.

••• I’m glad to see that the Saratoga Diner site is finally being redeveloped, and happy to note on Memorial Day weekend that veterans needing housing will be able to get apartments there. It’s about time that we have affordable apartments for working people and small businesses that will be supported by the new project. Hope the city will support it moving ahead.
