Housing project needed in Spa City

-

Many of us have experienced first hand the growing challenge of finding suitable quality housing for City residents like the veterans we support. As Executive Director of the Veterans Community & Housing Coalition and Chair of the Mayor’s Task Force on Affordable Housing, I have been disappointed with the lack of options worthy of the brave military veterans from the City we assist. Access to stable quality housing is a major factor to boosting their future opportunities.

Thanks to the City’s efforts spotlighting the shortfall of suitable places for our veterans and other working people to live, we are pleased to partner with the team redeveloping the former Saratoga Diner site on South Broadway. Our organization will manage 14 new housing units there helping our veterans who have already served us attain quality housing at fair rents.

We are excited that the City’s comprehensive plan, and the further analysis documenting the dramatic need for new affordable housing serving working and middle income people, is attracting investment to meet these community needs. We look forward to supporting this project through the necessary local and state approvals to help it become a reality for our veterans and others who will benefit from reactivating this dormant space on South Broadway. — Cheryl Hage-Perez Executive Director, Veterans Housing & Community Coalition of
