SARATOGA SPRINGS, N.Y. » Meg Kelly received the Saratoga Springs Democratic Committee’s endorsement for mayor on Thursday evening.

Kelly presently serves as deputy mayor under Mayor Joanne Yepsen.

Yepsen recently announced she will not seek re-election, and has endorsed Kelly.

City voters will select a new mayor in November.

“Working as deputy mayor has given me invaluable insight into the mayor’s position, and how to make Saratoga Springs run most effectively for its citizens and businesses,” said Kelly in a press release. “Thank you to the committee for the endorsement, and to all Saratogians: I will do my best to earn your votes over the next few months.”

Kelly grew up in Saratoga Springs. She worked as a LPGA golf instructor, authored an instructional guided titled “Easy Golf,” served as publisher of Saratoga Lifestyles magazine and founded Saratoga Children’s Theatre.

“I loved growing up in Saratoga Springs and have spent the majority of my life giving back to the community in one way or another,” said Kelly.

Kelly actively works on many critical issues including maintaining the city’s open space, creating workforce housing and improving the operations in the mayor’s departments.

“If elected, I promise to continue to work hard for all Saratogians and their families, while helping grow our business base,” said Kelly. “With my local business and community experience, I believe that I bring the proven leadership skills required to get the city’s business done in an efficient, respectful, and nononsense approach.”

Kelly said she is looking forward to beginning her campaign, continuing to meet with voters and rolling out her plans for the city over the next few months.

Kelly is not the only person with an interest in being the next mayor of the Spa City.

The Republican committee in March endorsed Mark Baker, the former president and executive director of the City Center, for mayor.
