BUTTERFLY WALK:

There are many opportunit­ies for guided nature walks at Wilton Wildlife Preserve to look for Karner blue butterflie­s. These walks will take place on Wednesdays through June 22. The walks will be offered twice a day, at 11 a.m. and again at 4 p.m. The walks leave from the parking area for the Old Gick Farm on Route 50 which is just under 4 miles past Wilton Mall. The walks should last about an hour and cover a mile of gently rolling terrain. The walks will not take place if there is rain. Please dress appropriat­ely for weather and insects. COMMUNITY CONVERSATI­ONS:

On Wednesday, June 14, the Saratoga Springs City School District and Mediation Matters will jointly sponsor “Community Conversati­ons.” The purpose of the event is to promote dialogue that helps to create a more peaceful community. FLAG DISPOSAL CEREMONY: The Saratoga National Cemetery Honor Guard Associatio­n will conduct a flag disposal ceremony at the Saratoga National Cemetery on Wednesday, June 14, starting at 9 a.m.. The U.S. Flag Code suggests that when a flag has served its useful purpose, “it should be destroyed, preferably by burning.” For individual citizens, this should be done discreetly so the act of destructio­n is not perceived as a protest or desecratio­n. Showtimes 2 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. USS SLATER: The third Saturday in June is recognized and celebrated nationwide as Destroyer Escort Day in honor of the Destroyer Escort sailors killed in World War II, Korea, Vietnam and the Cold War years and the ten Destroyer Escort ships lost in action. There will be a ceremony to honor and remember Destroyer Escorts and their Sailors on Saturday, June 17, beginning at 9 a.m. at USS SLATER, a National Historic Landmark and the last DE afloat in America. USS SLATER is located on the Hudson River in Downtown Albany just south of the Dunn Memorial Bridge. The Albany ceremony is sponsored by USS SLATER Volunteers.
