Giving sanctuary creates haven for criminals

-

I read in the June 9, 2017, Albany Times Union that the Presbyterian-New England Congregational Church and the Unitarian Universalist Congregation, both in Saratoga Springs are helping to provide sanctuary and aid to a few immigrant felons as a political stand against Trump administration rhetoric. As I understand it, Trump says that we are a sovereign country that should be in control of our borders. I agree. We, presently have 10 million plus individuals who do not respect this. These individuals, as their first step into the U.S.A. chose to break/disrespect our laws. Some of them, in contempt of our laws continue to break them. They have gotten away with it and have no respect for America. This is who ICE is going after. Not people who have broken the law once by being in the U.S.A. illegally. But being here illegally and then breaking the law again crosses the line. Why not break more laws when there are no consequence and churches, states and cities give sanctuary and protection.

Illegal aliens are also law breaking line jumpers. The U.S.A. does have an immigration policy. It is not perfect but it exists. The people that scoff at that, jump the line and insult all legal immigrants are problems.

The Saratoga Presbyterians and UUs are idealists and good people but terribly wrong about this issue. I hope the people in their sanctuary after having already broken our laws at least twice don’t seriously hurt anyone. The news is full of illegals killing citizens by drunk driving, and don’t forget Kate Steinle. The sanctuary givers should consider that. Joseph L. DiBenedetto Gansevoort
