PRO & 3 SENIOR AM AT PINEHAVEN POSTPONED » The National Car Rental Pro & 3 Senior Am hosted by Pinehaven CC scheduled for Monday has been postponed to a later date.

The NENY PGA staff talked to a local metoerologist about the forecasted weather and it was indicated the storm was expected to be in the area by 1 p.m. with high winds, heavy rain, and lightning. With the long expected duration of the storm, it would be very difficult to have all teams complete the round.

The NENY PGA will fully refund all entry fees to professionals.

The staff will begin to work with the Pinehaven CC staff to determine a rescheduled date for this event and will process the refunds to all professionals. The new date for the event will be communicated to the membership. Judo

Alex Turner, 24, and Burnt Hills High School senior, Quentin Cook, 18, turned in terrific performances in their respective judo events Saturday. Both Turner and Cook represent the Jason Morris Judo Center in Glenville, N.Y. and the New York Athletic Club in Manhattan. Turner took a bronze medal in the Cancun Grand Prix in 73 kilograms, which is on the International Judo Federation Tour. This was Turner’s first Grand Prix medal in his career and it moved him 13 spots up to a career high No. 23 on the world rankings.

Turner’s run included beating Jack Smith (Great Briton), Alonso Wong (Peru) and avenged a semi final loss earlier this year at the Pan Ams, taking out hometown hero, Eduardo Araujo (Mexico) in an overtime thriller to capture the bronze.

A Burnt Hills grad also developed at the JMJC, Jack Hatton, 21, took fifth place at the Cancun Grand Prix.

Turner’s only loss came in the semis to eventual silver medalist and No. 11 ranked Tohar Butbol (Israel).

Across North America, Cook earned his second trip to the Junior World Championships by winning USA Judo’s Jr. Olympics in Spokane, Wash., which also served as the Jr. World trials. Cook become the 26th athlete from the JMJC to qualify for the Jr. Worlds.
