NIGHT SKY ADVENTURE:
Our solar system is filled with comets and asteroids of various shapes and sizes. To learn more about these objects, astronomers have sent spacecrafts to land on both comets and asteroids. PITNEY MEADOWS COMMUNITY GARDENS: Plots in the Pitney Meadows Community Gardens are going fast, but there are still some 4x8 feet raised beds available along with a few 24-inch tall 3x8 feet beds and 8x12 feet in-ground plots. Fees are based on a sliding scale from $35 to $300 depending on the size of the bed. Applications can be downloaded at pitneymeadows.org/communitygardens/ and there are paper applications in the foyer of the Spring Street Gallery, 110 Spring Street. There will be a meeting of PMCG gardeners on June 20 at 7 p.m. at the Saratoga Springs public library in the H. Dutcher room.
SARATOGA SPA STATE PARK:
“A Taste of History,” 11 a.m. Savor a taste of history as you saunter through the park and sip from several of the natural mineral springs. During this one hour tour, patrons will experience some of the most outstanding architecture, geology and natural history in Saratoga Springs. This program costs $3. Registration is required. BUTTERFLY WALK: There are many opportunities for guided nature walks at Wilton Wildlife Preserve to look for Karner blue butterflies. These walks will take place on Wednesdays through June 21. The walks will be offered twice a day, at 11 a.m. and again at 4 p.m. The walks leave from the parking area for the Old Gick Farm on Route 50 which is just under 4 miles past Wilton Mall. The walks should last about an hour and cover a mile of gently rolling terrain. The walks will not take place if there is rain. Please dress appropriately for weather and insects. GRANT COTTAGE: KneeHigh History, 10 a.m. The Civil War years were more than soldiers at war. In song and story, program facilitators Diana O’Brien and Tom Smith will remind us that there were heroes on the battlefields, cities, towns and villages who built upon the legacy left by our nation’s founders and who envisioned a country of freedom and opportunity for all. #HEALTHY SARATOGA ACTIVITIES EXPO & MIXER: The Saratoga County Chamber of Commerce, along with sponsors The Adirondack Trust Company and BlueShield of Northeastern New York will host a slate of healthy events and activities at the Saratoga Regional YMCA. BALLSTON SPA CEMETERY CLEANUP: The Ballston spa Cemetery Association is looking for volunteers to help with several projects in the village cemetery. People are needed for gravestone cleaning, fence painting, brush trimming. Saturday, June 24, from 9 a.m. to noon has been scheduled for volunteers to gather at the cemetery to continue this needed work. If you can help out, please attend. Wear work clothes and bring rakes and clippers if you are interested in yard work. We will have supplies for painting and gravestone cleaning. The first “North American Civil War” was a very disruptive time - splitting up families, many changing the spelling of their names to denote which side they were on. CON BRIO CONCERT: Con Brio Performing Arts presents the Sariah Ashton Trio on Saturday, June 24, at 7:30 p.m. Sariah will be accompanied by cellist Kathleen Bowman and pianist Douglas Bischoff.
