Pair of local high schools conduct ceremonies at Saratoga Springs City Center
SARATOGA SPRINGS, N.Y. » The Saratoga Springs City Center hosted a couple of high school graduation ceremonies on Saturday.
The Schuylerville High School Class of 2017 had its graduation ceremony — the Schuylerville Central School District’s 71st Commencement — in the morning.
Later in the day, members of the Stillwater High School Class of 2017 walked across the stage at the venue to receive their diplomas.
Schuylerville
At the graduation ceremony for the Schuylerville High School Class of 2017, welcoming remarks were given by Maydia Sorgie — the senior class president.
The class valedictorian, Cody Durr, and the class salutatorian, Kaleigh Gale, each addressed the attendees. Schuylerville High School Principal Matthew Sickles also gave an address.
The graduation program included performances of the “Star Spangled Banner” and the school anthem by
the SCS Vocal Ensemble Seniors. The “Seniors” from the High School Chorus also gave a rendition of “I’ll be There for You” — famous for being the theme song for the TV show, “Friends.”
The Schuylerville High School Class of 2017 is comprised of 138 students, according to information from the district. In addition to diplomas, numerous prizes and scholarships were also presented during the ceremony.
Stillwater
After going through 13 years of schooling, 85 students became the 133rd class to graduate from Stillwater High School on Saturday. The graduation ceremony featured several guest speakers, including Stillwater High School Principal Michael Johnson, Superintendent Patricia Morris, senior class president Zachary Travis, salutatorian Kayleigh Urdang and valedictorian Curtis Miller.
Several students received Superintendent’s Medals and Principal’s Medals for passing all of their New York State Regents exams with a score of 85 or better.
In addition to receiving medals, more than 70 students received commencement awards.
