Sunday, June 25 BIG HOWL:

On Sunday, June 25, from 3 p.m. to 7 p.m. regional favorites Everest Rising, The Nellies, and Rusticator will take the stage at The Mabee Farm in Rotterdam Junction for the Big Howl, an afternoon of bluegrass, indie folk, and more. The Big Howl is this summer’s destinatio­n for lively Americana tunes, BBQ from The 99 Restaurant, and plenty of beer, plus blacksmith­ing demos and more. June’s sun is high, the day is long, and the banks of the Mohawk River are the best place to soak it up. Admission to the Big Howl is $8, with BBQ dinners and drinks available at an extra cost. GRANT COTTAGE: “And They Fought Too: Women Soldiers of the Civil War,” 1 p.m. Many women decided being a nurse, cook, or laundress was not what they wanted to do during the Civil War--they wanted more! Several disguised themselves as men and joined in the battles of the war. Four female soldiers will be detailed by Grant Cottage Site Manager Dave Hubbard, thanks to their memoirs, letters and military records. The suggested donation for programs is $5 per person. 1000 Mt. MOVE & GROOVE 5K: The National Museum of Dance holds its fourth annual Move & Groove 5k on June 25 at 9 a.m. Beginning and ending at the National Museum of Dance, 99 South Broadway in Saratoga Springs, the beautiful 3.1 mile course runs through the scenic Spa State Park. There will be cash awards for the top 3 male and top 3 female runners ($200, $150 and $100 respective­ly), as well as a $50 prize for best male and female dance costumes. A Kid’s Fun Run, for younger athletes, will take place before the start of the 5k run on the lawn of the National Museum of Dance, offering awards to all participan­ts. SARATOGA SPRINGS WALKING TOUR:

The Saratoga Springs Preservati­on Foundation is delighted to present their summer of historic walking tours, which will be offered each Sunday through September 3rd. ST. JEAN-BAPTISTE:

On Sunday, June 25, at 3 p.m., La Fédération Franco-Américaine du NY will honor the Québec holiday Saint-Jean-Baptiste at the annual Mass in French, led by Fr. Jeffrey L’Arche, at St. Mary of the Assumption Church, 119 Broad Street, Waterford. The liturgy and hymns will be in French; the homily, in French and English. The tradition of honoring St. Jean in late June came to North America with the French colonists, who first celebrated on the banks of the St. Lawrence River on June 23, 1636, with a bonfire and cannon shots. This free event is open to all; those attending Mass are invited to a reception immediatel­y afterwards in the parish hall.

YADDO GARDEN TOURS:

Yaddo Garden Tours will be held Saturday and Sunday from June 24-5 through September 2-3, as well as Tuesdays during racing season. Tours of Garden only include sharing the history of the Trask Family, the Mansion and history of the Yaddo gardens. The aura, spirituali­ty and creative energy that permeates Yaddo is discussed. Docent-led tours begin 11 a.m. at the main fountain near the entrance gate to the garden. Tours last about one hour, for $10/person.
