Clifton Park man wins $1M
BALLSTON SPA, N.Y. » 19-yearold Anthony Iavarone played the $1,000,000 Cashword scratch-off ticket because his aunt plays the game.
He considers his aunt lucky, but he never thought the ticket he bought would be the big winner.
Iavarone, who resides in Clifton Park, was at work when he told his co-worker to pick up a lottery ticket for him.
“I didn’t believe that I really won,” said Iavarone. “My father took the ticket and scanned it to be sure, but we still didn’t believe it.”
Iavarone won the top prize of $1 million. After withholdings, Iavarone will receive a check totaling $661,800.
The winning ticket
was purchased at Stewart’s Shops on Northline Road.
Iavarone says he plans to buy a new truck with some of the winnings, but the rest he’ll invest, hoping he can eventually start a small landscaping business.
“Winning the Lottery is one of the best feelings in the world,” said Iavarone.
Iavarone is the 42nd New York Lottery player to win a prize of $1 million or more in 2017.
New York Lottery’s Yolanda Vega presented the lucky winner with a novelty check Friday morning during an event.
The New York Lottery contributed $35,741,783 in Lottery Aid to Education to school districts in Saratoga County during the fiscal year 2016-17, officials said.
