MOREAU, N.Y. » The following events are planned at Moreau Lake State Park in July. July 1: Fish Filleting (11 a.m.) Take a lesson from the Park Naturalist. No reservatio­n necessary. Free. July 2: Secret Life of Snakes (10 a.m.) Learn about the different snakes in the Nature Center that are also found in the park. Learn about habitat, predators, prey and the habits of snakes. July 3: Red Oak Ridge Hike (9-11 a.m.) Challengin­g three miles round trip. July 5: Wetland Hike (9-11 a.m.) Walk around a small wetland to listen and look for wild animals. July 6: Kneehigh Naturalist (10 a.m.) This class is intended for children ages 1-6 and their parents/guardians along with any siblings. It includes a short story or two based on the outdoors followed by a hike. July 6: Moreau Kayak Trip (9-11 a.m.) Park Naturalist will lead this beginner’s paddle around the lake. July 6: Kid’s Craft (1-2 p.m.) Arts and crafts at Nature Center. July 7: Fishing trip (8:3011:30 a.m.) Only two seats are available in the boat. Call to reserve one, 793-0511. July 9: Full Moon Hike (8 p.m.) Park Naturalist will lead this hike, pointing out flora and fauna as the sun is setting and the moon is rising. Cost is $3 per person. July 11: Lake Bonita Hike (9-11 a.m.) Hike along the newly acquired land at Lake Bonita, led by a park educator. July 12: Moreau Kayak Trip (9 a.m.-noon) Park Naturalist will lead this beginner’s paddle around the lake. July 13: Lake Loop Hike (9 a.m.-2 p.m.) Five-plus mile round trip from the spring overlook parking lot across the new waterfall trail to Lake Bonita; then to Lake Ann and a loop back around to the parking area. Bring water and a lunch. July 13: Fish Filleting (11 a.m.) Take a lesson from the Park Naturalist. No reservatio­n necessary. Free. July 13: Kid’s Craft (1-2 p.m.) Arts and crafts at Nature Center. July 19: Baker Trail (9 a.m.noon) Summit the Palmertown range; a little over two miles round trip. July 20: Kneehigh Naturalist (10 a.m.) This class is intended for children ages 1-6 and their parents/guardians along with any siblings. It includes a short story or two based on the outdoors

followed by a hike. July 20: Kid’s Craft (1-2 p.m.) Arts and crafts at Nature Center. July 21: Hudson River Kayak (9 a.m.-noon) Park Naturalist will lead this paddle along the river pointing out signs of wildlife while teaching strokes and kayaking safety. July 22: Fishing trip (911:30 a.m.) Only two seats are available in the boat. Call to reserve one, 7930511. July 23: Turtle Talk (10 a.m.) Learn about turtle habits, habitat and diet followed by a walk on the beach with live Nature Center turtles. July 25: Beaver Adventure (10 a.m.) This short walk will bring participan­ts close to a beaver lodge and beaver habitat. July 26: Wetland Hike (10 a.m.-noon) Walk around a small wetland to listen and look for wild animals. July 27: Moreau Kayak Trip (9:30-11:30 a.m.) Park Naturalist will lead this beginner’s paddle around the lake. July 28: Fishing Trip (9:30-11:30 a.m.) Only two seats are available in the boat. Call to reserve one, 793-0511. July 29: Fish Filleting (11 a.m.) Take a lesson from the Park Naturalist. No reservatio­n necessary. Free. Programs are held weather permitting and are subject to change. Call the park office to confirm event date, time and location. Participan­ts should be prepared to spend time outside and are encouraged to wear appropriat­e clothing and footwear. Reservatio­ns are required for most programs.
