GRANT COTTAGE:

Grant and the Press, 1 p.m. Find out how the press of the 19th century treated Ulysses S. Grant as he rose to fame and how he responded to it as Grant Cottage staff member Ben Kemp explores the press of Grant’s time. The presentati­on also highlights the emergence of the political cartoon, led by Thomas Nast, and its effect on Grant’s political career. The program will feature displays of original Thomas Nast prints; copies of “The General and The Journalist­s” will also be available for purchase. 100 Mt. McGregor Road, Wilton.

MOREAU LAKE STATE PARK:

The Secret Life of Snakes, 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. Come and learn about the different kinds of snakes we take care of right here in our nature center that are also found in our park. We will talk about habitat, predators, prey and the habits of these misunderst­ood creatures. Reservatio­ns are required with 24 hours advanced notice, please call 793-0511.

SARATOGA SPRINGS SUMMER STROLL:

The Saratoga Springs Preservati­on Foundation is delighted to present their summer of historic walking tours, which will be offered each Sunday through September 3rd. The July 2 tour is “Health & Wellness: Franklin Square.” Carrie Woerner, NYS Assemblywo­man and former SSPF Executive Director, lead the tour through the architectu­rally rich historic Franklin Square area. Meet at NW Corner of Division Street & Broadway at 10:30 a.m. The cost per tour is $5 for SSPF members and $8 for non-members. Tours require walking & standing and cover varied terrain. YADDO GARDEN TOURS:

Yaddo Garden Tours will be held Saturday and Sunday from June 24-5 through September 2-3, as well as Tuesdays during racing season. Tours of Garden only include sharing the history of the Trask Family, the Mansion and history of the Yaddo gardens. The aura, spirituali­ty and creative energy that permeates Yaddo is discussed. Docent-led tours begin 11 a.m. at the main fountain near the entrance gate to the garden. Tours last about one hour, for $10/person. Red Oak Ridge Hike, 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. Though challengin­g this hike is about 3 miles round trip. You will be climbing about half way up the mountain range and walking through some special places our educator will point out as well as stop to enjoy. Please bring water on this hike. The Dudley Observator­y at miSci is committed to lifelong learning and has created programmin­g specifical­ly designed for adults! Come explore the museum on a quiet afternoon, then join the Dudley Observator­y for an exciting astronomy lesson,” How to View the Great American Eclipse,” presented by Outreach Astronomer Dr. Valerie Rapson. 3 p.m. to 4 p.m., miSci - Museum of Innovation and Science, 15 Nott Terrace Heights, Schenectad­y. Cost: Senior Admission to miSci ($10.50 adult, $7.50 child age 3-12, $9 senior 65+), Free for miSci members. Come early or stay after the lesson to enjoy the many exhibits miSci has to offer. KIDS FUN RUN:

Children ages 12 and younger and those of all abilities regardless of age are invited to the ½ mile Fun Run of the Official Firecracke­r 4 Race, starting at the City Center in Saratoga Springs and ending at Congress Park Saratoga. It is a run, not a race. Children of all abilities are encouraged to participat­e and parents are encouraged to run with their child. Strollers are welcome. Please no dogs! This run precedes the All American Celebratio­n’s 11 a.m. July 4th parade. Start time is at 10:40 a.m. The run finishes at the entrance to Congress Park with each child receiving a medal and refreshmen­ts. All participat­ing kids will be provided with a race bib, which has a matching numbered stub for parents.
