New downtown Troy eatery offers healthy smoothies and juices
TROY, N.Y.» A new downtown eatery called Liza’s is aiming to serve food for the soul, heart, body and mind.
Liza’s is a small health food cafe currently offering smoothies, acai bowls and raw vegan bites.
Named after founder Liza Morgan, this new business recently opened at 215 Broadway in downtown Troy, the former home of Collar City Hard Pressed.
Morgan moved from Albany knowing there was something in store for her in Troy. “Something deep, something meaningful, something powerful, something rewarding,” she said. “Something like Liza’s.”
To Morgan, Liza’s is a venue to portray all of her passion and inspiration for food and health.
On why she started this endeavor, Morgan said it stemmed from a back injury in 2013 that led her on a mission to believe and prove that food is medicine.
During that time she was mentored by two people back home in Pennsylvania who introduced her to “the most powerful medicine food, real food,” she said. “Food from its roots, food from the farm, food from the earth.”
Since then, she’s experimented, studied, traveled for and indulged in all sorts of different foods. “I believe in a good meal with better company makes a perfect day or evening,” she said.
With her new cafe now open, Morgan hopes to share that experience with others. “I am not striving to be the world’s best chef or make loads of money, I’m striving to nourish those around me, near and far, with good, wholesome and nutritious food,” she said, “create an environment where people walk out feeling good, alive and energetic.”
Over the last few years, Morgan has discovered her dream to connect with people through food - sharing knowledge, different cuisines, traditional tips and techniques and so much more.
Through Liza’s, she is now making that dream a reality.
Liza’s serves “food for the soul, heart, body and mind,” Morgan said. This includes smoothies, juices and a small selection of health food and snacks. “Food that your body will crave the next day because it’s nutritious, wholesome and from the earth - not the factory,” she continued.
Morgan expects that many will be unfamiliar with her foods’s ingredients, which are mostly superfoods, but for those willing try it, she has a promise: “Liza’s will be sure to satisfy your cravings, educate you on something new, make you smile and hopefully revamp your inner soul with wholesome smoothies, juices and health food,” she said. “All I ask is you try - be comfortable with the uncomfortable - it’ll only do you good.”
The menu at Liza’s is will expand in the future, Morgan said, but right now she recommends trying the smoothie special of the day, which are some of her favorite recipes that she personally curated.
For those who haven’t tried acai, Morgan encourages customers to indulge in an acai bowl. “Just come hungry and prepare for 32 ounces of pure goodness,” she said.
Menu items range from $4.50-$15.
Looking ahead, Morgan’s goal for the business is expansion. “Expanding is definitely in the future. Different concepts, locations and collaborations as well,” she said.
“Opportunities are endless and at 23 years old, I have the courage to dream and the fortitude to make those dreams happen,” Morgan continued. “I will continue to be ambitious and grow my brand no matter what it takes, as long as my customers are happy and keep coming back for more, my goals will unfold the way they naturally should.”
Liza’s is open from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Friday and 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturday.
