Ernest Stephen Chamberlin

GREENFIELD CENTER - Ernest Stephen Chamberlin passed away on Sunday, July 9, 2017. He was born July 4, 1928 and was a long resident of Greenfield Center and lived his entire life in the home he was born and in.

During his high school years, Ernie worked nights and weekends at Crawley’s Sunoco filling station at the corner of Church and Clinton Streets in Saratoga Springs. After high school he worked at the Harvey Co. (pharmaceut­ical) for a short time and then went to GE in Schenectad­y.

Ernie worked mainly as a welder on production and maintenanc­e with numerous certificat­ions at one time for work on atomic motors that were used the aircraft carrier Enterprise and certificat­ion for work on steam generating boilers and associated ing and piping. His service at GE includes a credit of two years for time spent in the US Army during the Korean Conflict serving with Occupation­al Forces in Germany. In February, 1954, after two years active duty with months overseas, Ernie was transferre­d to the Reserve and received an honorable charge with the rank of Corporal in 1960. His ployment at GE lasted 34 years before retiring.

A Greenfield Fireman for 41 years, Ernie worked his way up through the ranks to become Chief of the four company department from 1956 to 1967. After leaving his post as chief, he worked for several years as a Barney Baker.

Ernie was a member of the Greenfield Center Baptist Church, a trustee for twenty seven years and chairman of the board for seventeen years. He also spent ten years as President of the Greenfield Cemetery

An original member of the Town of Greenfield Planning Board for ten years, Ernie left the board in 1984 to become a town councilman until 2005. In 1999 Ernie successful­ly spearheade­d a project to erect a veteran’s monument in a small park in Greenfield Center. This is dedicated to the men and women from the Town of Greenfield who served their country.

Ernie had many interests and hobbies. He was a long standing member of the SaraSpa Rod and Gun Club and ran the skeet field for several years. He spent countless hours reloading ammunition and casting bullets. In addition he loved camping, ing, fishing, fly tying and cross country skiing. On December 29, 1969 he married his beautiful bride, the late Gertrude K. (Kenyon) Powers who was just as enthusiast­ic about the great outdoors as Ernie was. Together they spent years doing all the activi- ties they loved, content in each other’s company until Gert passed away on January 4, 2014. Ernie and Gert enjoyed a very special loving relationsh­ip. Often seen holding hands, sitting together and always considerat­e of each other’s feeling, they were of one heart.

In addition to his wife Gertrude, Ernie was predecease­d by his parents Wallace E. and Helen W. row) Chamberlin; sister and brother-in-law Fern A. and Thomas C. Hall; er-in-law Henry E. Hall and son Thomas F.

Survivors include his sister, Virginia J. Hall; daughter-in-law Katherine Powers; son Richard L. Powers and his wife Jodie and several nieces, nephmany ews, grandchild­ren, and great-grandchild­ren. He also leaves behind people whose friendship­s he always cherished.

Ernest Stephen berlin was a very special, gentle and unselfish man. He will be greatly missed.

Relatives and friends may call from 10am to 12noon on Wednesday, July 12, 2017 at the William J. Burke & Sons/Bussing & Cunniff, Inc. Funeral Homes, 628 North Broadway, Saratoga Springs.

A funeral service will be celebrated at 12noon by Pastor Ryan Lunsford. Burial will follow at Greenfield Cemetery, Greenfield Center, NY.

Joan Smith

QUEENSBURY - Joan Smith, daughter of Herbert and Pearl Smith, born on July 24, 1933, passed away on July 8, 2017 at the age of 83.

Joan enjoyed taking care of animals and tending her flowers.

Joan is survived by her son and granddaugh­ter.

At the family’s request, there will be no services.

John J. Postlethwa­ite

BALLSTON SPA - It is with a heavy heart, many tears, and reluctancy that we send our dad, brother, friend and mentor, John J. Postlethwa­ite on his fiJohnPost­lecanal journey. Born in son City, NY on December 21, 1952, he was the son of John and Elizabeth thwaite.

John worked at St. Clare’s Hospital in Schenectad­y for the majority of his reer. For the past ten years, he was the purchaser and accounts payable coordinaSa­ratoga tor at Four Winds Hospital in Springs.

He was a communican­t of St. Mary’s Church in Ballston Spa. John enjoyed the beach and spending time at the family camp in Canada. Each morning he could be found at the YMCA in Malta.

Beloved husband and father he will be dearly missed.

Patricia A. Morrow

CORINTH - Patricia A. Morrow of Corinth passed away peacefully at the Jesse Group Home on June 24, 2017, at the age of 73.

Born on October 24, 1943, she was one of two children of the late Charlies and Winifred (Berberick) Lang.

Patricia enjoyed a long career with Saratoga County as a registered nurse. When she wasn’t working, she loved to travel and spend time with her animal companions. One of her favorite places to visit was Yellowston­e National Park. She loved nature and enjoyed fly-fishing and canoeing many different rivers, especially in Wyoming. Patricia loved to ski the mountains in the winter and go to Bluegrass music festivals in the summer.

Patricia was predecease­d by her parents and son, Edward Tripp, and sister, Judy Connor.

Patricia is survived by her son, Kevin Tripp, 2 grandchild­ren, Liam and Tegan Tripp, and nephew, Michael Connor.

Family and friends may call on July 13, 2017, from 12pm to 2pm at the Tunison Funeral Home, 105 Lake Ave., Saratoga Springs, NY 12866.

Richard dJ Joseph Requa

BALLSTON SPA - Richard Joseph Requa passed away suddenly on July 6, 2017 at the age of 69. He was born in Rochester NY on De La Reouch cember 11, 1947 to the late Joseph and Margaret Requa.

Rick graduated from Paul Smiths College with a degree in Forestry. After graduation Rick began a life of dedication and sera vice, both to his country and his local communitie­s. He served in the United States Army during the Vietnam War and received an honorable discharge from the armed forces in 1970. Rick went to work for EnCon and became NYS Forest Ranger for 28 years retiring in 2004. He continued public service as an employee of the Town of Milton, a volunteer fire Saraa man for Eagle-Matt Lee, a former member of Rock City Falls Fire Department, and an EMT for the toga flat track. Rick was man of many talents, an avid outdoorsma­n, and a black belt in karate.

Rick was a life member of the Greenfield Fire Company and also VFW Post 358 and Henry Cornell American Legion Post 234 of Ballston Spa.

Aside from his dedication to his nation and nity, Rick was dedicated to his loving wife, Sandra and their loving animals, phy and Simon. Rick is also survived by a sister in law Nancy Morrissey, a nephew Mike Morrissey (Christine) and Great nieces Laura and Maggie and Great Nephew Sean. His adopted family Philip, Bonnie, Jared, Stahis cy, and Austin Stenglein. Close friends, the Irene Hogan family, many other close friends, his Aunt Shirley, cousins and many brothers and sisters in public service.

In addition to his parents, Rick was predecease­d by several aunts and uncles.

Relatives and friends are invited to call from 6 to 8pm on Thursday, July 13, 2017 at the William J. Burke & Sons/Bussing & Cunniff, Inc. Funeral Homes, 628 North Broadway, Saratoga Springs. A service will be performed at 7pm by the volunteers of VFW Post 358.
