Racing town hall set for Wednesday
SARATOGA SPRINGS, N.Y. » Jockey Richard Migliore will moderate two panel discussions during a town hall-style racing program scheduled for 7-9 p.m. Wednesday at the Fasig-Tipton sales pavilion, 153 George St., in Saratoga Springs.
The event is hosted by the New York Racing Fan Advisory Council whose goals are to grown the New York racing fan base and educate people about significant industry topics.
The free public program is an opportunity for fans to get a detailed understanding of how decisions are made at the track each day.
Migliore and council members will moderate at 7 p.m. panel discussion with racing stewards from the New York State Gaming Commission, New York Racing Association and The Jockey Club. Topics will include how they approach their job, the standards they use for making calls, and a review of the race call with video replay of the 2016 Sword Dancer.
A second panel, at 8 p.m., will highlight the work of jockey agents with topics such as how they determine which mounts to give trainers from high-demand riders, relationships with other agents and relationship with their riders.
“The Racing Fan Advisory Council is proud to host this inaugural event, which will provide an in-depth, behind-thescenes look at how the decisions are made that impact the races we love,” said Chairman Craig Alfred said in a statement.
