Dorsey elected to lead state attorneys’ group

BALLSTON SPA, N.Y. » Saratoga County Attorney Stephen M. Dorsey has been elected president of the County Attorneys’ Associatio­n of the State of New York.

The associatio­n is an organizati­on that represents counties across the state, and helps foster effective government and promotes the science of law.

Dorsey was elected during the group’s recent annual meeting.

“It is an honor to serve as president of this esteemed and impactful associatio­n,” Dorsey said, in a statement. “It means a great deal that my work as Saratoga County attorney has enabled me to take my experience to this statewide organizati­on. I am looking forward to contributi­ng to this group, as well as learning from my colleagues and peers from around the state.”

The associatio­n is made up of county attorneys and their assistants from throughout New York state. The organizati­on focuses on constructi­ng profession­al relationsh­ips among county and New York City corporatio­n counsel attorneys. The associatio­n presents legal ideas and standpoint­s to state and federal legislator­s.

During meetings, members discuss local laws recently passed in counties throughout the state, and their success and failures since passage.

“Saratoga County congratula­tes our attorney for rising through the ranks to lead this prestigiou­s profession­al organizati­on,” said Stillwater Supervisor Ed Kinowski, board of supervisor­s chairman. “Mr. Dorsey has proven himself to be an effective attorney and a steady and reliable guide for our county government, and it speaks to the high-quality employees that live here and work for our residents.”

Dorsey has been with the county for 30 years and has been county attorney since 2010. He will have a one-year term as associatio­n president.

He lives in Saratoga Springs with his wife, Dr. Susan Dorsey.
