LOVE LETTERS FROM MOUNT RUSHMORE: Wilton resident Richard Cerasani, author of “Love Letters From Mount Rushmore: The Story of a Marriage, a Monument, and a Moment in History.” will be the guest speaker in the Community Room at the Hadley Luzerne Public Library on July 20 at 7 p.m. Most people who visit Mount Rushmore see only the figures of four famous presidents---George Washington, Thomas Jefferson, Abraham Lincoln and Theodore Roosevelt, but Cerasani see his parents, Arthur and Mary, the heroic sacrifices they made and the obstacles they overcame to work at this national landmark shortly before World War II, which left the huge sculpture in its still-unfinished state. SIRO’S CUP: The 24th annual Newton Plaza & Marini Homes Siro’s Cup to benefit the Center for Disability Services will be held on Thursday, July 20. SCHUYLERVI­LLE LIONS FUNDRAISER: The Schuylervi­lle Lions Club will be holding its 11th Annual Wine, Beer, Hard Cider and Food Tasting on Saturday, July 22, from 4 p.m - 7 p.m. at the Schuyler Yacht Basin. This popular event showcases a variety of local wines, beers and hard ciders, as well the wares of more than 20 local eateries. This is the largest fundraiser of the year for the Schuylervi­lle Lions Club. TANG FAMILY SATURDAYS: “Wacky Wagons” looks at Phil Frost’s sculpture of a wagon in the exhibition: “If I Had Possession Over Judgement Day: Collection­s of Claude Simard.” Make wagons out of cardboard, markers, spools, and even use wite-out as paint, just as Phil Frost did on his. The program runs from 2 p.m. – 3:30 p.m. at the Tang Museum, Skidmore Collge, and is free and open to the public. Suitable for children ages 5 and up along with their adult companions. YADDO GARDEN TOURS: Yaddo Garden Tours will be held Saturday and Sunday from June 24-5 through September 2-3, as well as Tuesdays during racing season. Tours of Garden only include sharing the history of the Trask Family, the Mansion and history of the Yaddo gardens. The aura, spirituali­ty and creative energy that permeates Yaddo is discussed. Docentled tours begin 11 a.m. at the main fountain near the entrance gate to the garden. Tours last about one hour, for $10/person. GRANT REMEMBRANC­E DAY: One hundred and thirty-two years ago, at age 63, U.S. Grant finally bowed to the only enemy who could defeat him – cancer. It’s a Grant Cottage tradition to mark this somber occasion by recreating the Grant family circle to speak about Grant the husband, father and grandfathe­r. Reenactors portraying Grant’s family and closest friends will gather on the Cottage porch and bid the man they loved

and respected a final, very personal farewell. Speakers will be Ben Kemp (in the character of U.S.G.’s youngest son, Jesse Grant) and Steve Trimm (in the character of Grant physician Dr. John Hancock Douglas). The program will include music and, while acknowledg­ing grief, will be a true celebratio­n of Grant’s truly extraordin­ary life. 1 p.m., 1000 Mt. McGregor Road, Wilton. Fine art photograph­er Craig Murphy will return to Grant Cottage from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. to create tintypes for purchase using the same equipment and wet plate process used in the 1860’s. HISTORY STROLL: Saratoga Spa State Park docent programs will be offered daily through Labor Day Monday, September 4. Discover park history on a short walk to learn about historic uses for mineral waters, the 1930s spa complex for research and medical treatment, and other park history highlights. Program meets up at 11 a.m., 1 p.m. and 3 p.m. at the arcade, outside the administra­tion building, 19 Roosevelt Drive, Saratoga Springs.

JEWISH CULTURAL FESTIVAL: The Saratoga Jewish Cultural Festival continues its summer program with a July 23 screening of “Waltz with Bashir,” a devastatin­g animated film that tries to reconstruc­t how and why thousands of innocent civilians were massacred during the 1982 Israeli invasion of Lebanon when those with the power to stop them took no action. The film’s end gives way to newsreel footage of the dead, whose death is inescapabl­e. “Waltz with Bashir” will be shown at Temple Sinai, Saratoga Springs, at 7 p.m. Panel discussion and dessert to follow. $5 donation requested. MOREAU LAKE STATE PARK: Turtle Talk, 10 a.m. Harrelson and Daryl are two resident terrestria­l turtles that are cared for at the park.
