ALL IN GOOD FUN
Monthly festival aims to connect public with games
TROY, N.Y.»
Downtown Troy is having a Field Day this Friday for July’s Troy Night Out.
All are invited shop, dine, explore and play in downtown Troy from 5 to 9 p.m. on Friday for the district’s Field Day-themed Troy Night Out, held regularly on the last Friday of each month.
This month’s theme is meant to reconnect event-goers with funfilled summers of games, food and music.
In conjunction with MVP Health Care Troy Summer Square, a popup pedestrian plaza located at Broadway and River Street, The Arts Center of the Capital Region and the Troy Boys & Girls Club are presenting an old-fashioned family fun night. Activities will include cornhole, hula hooping, a remote control car obstacle course, tabletop games and an art project - open to the young, old and everyone in between.
After all the action, guests can refuel at the nearby Illium Café, which will offer lunch boxes filled with kids favorites with any purchase of a food menu item.
Attendees will have the opportunity to make handcrafted jewelry at Sawtooth Studios or watch a live printing of an exclusive poster by Jared M. Lodholm at eco-friendly print shop Troy Cloth & Paper.
Those looking to challenge their problem-solving skills can head to Takk House for an improv murder mystery night, or new business Enigtmatic Escapes, which will have a Troy Night Out discount.
Downtown Troy businesses such as Artcentric Marketplace, AMC Jewelry and Weathered Wood, Bella V Boutique, Forage + Sundry, and Hippies, Witches & Gypsies will have special discounts and promotions for customers to browse.
Patrons can also strengthen their art and cultural muscles at Scarlet Seven Fine Art Gallery’s new “Konstruct” exhibition, The Photography Center of the Capital District for their final day of Victorian portraits, and see growth at Rensselaer County Historical Society with “Echoes from Lock One,” an interdisciplinary media project that transforms North Troy into compelling messages of hope and transformation.
Troy Night Out-ers can enjoy the summer weather on the back patios at Sunhee’s Farm and Kitchen with a special Southeast Asian menu, and Superior Merchandise Co. with a Mexican and Beer pop-up.
Parents looking for a night out alone can drop their children at Kids Night Out, where they can enjoy food, fun and activities on the Russell Sage College campus. Preregistration is required on the Troy YMCA website.
Troy Night Out programs will be available at participating downtown businesses, the Downtown Troy BID office located at 251 River St., or online at www.downtowntroy.org/troy-night-out. Listings are also available via the Troy Night Out mobile phone app.
