SARATOGA, N.Y. » The 11-yearolds won the Section 2 North Champions with a 12-7 victory over Plattsburgh. They won the series 2-0 and still have more baseball to play.

They move on to the eightteam State Championship tournament beginning July 29th in East Greenbush, N.Y. The team has won seven straight games with great hitting, pitching and team defense.

In last night’s game, with Saratoga down 5-3 in the fourth inning, Louis Betit and Orion Lansing delivered back to back home runs to take a 7-5 lead and knock a tough pitcher off the mound. The offense and defense rolled from there, taking a comfortable 12-5 lead into the bottom of the 6th.

TROY, N.Y. » Troy opened up a series at home against Staten Island last night, but made several transactions before the game. They promoted Abraham Toro-Hernandez, who had hit four home runs for the ValleyCats. He’s also served as a translator at times for the young Latin players. Reid Russell was demoted to Greenville. To fill the two open spots Gabriel Bracamonte was demoted from Quad Cities and Colton Shaver was promoted Greenville. The ValleyCats are 4.5 games behind the Vermont Lake Monsters after beating them in two out of three games earlier this week. The ValleyCats will be playing just a short car ride away from where Astros great Jeff Bagwell will receive his Hall of Fame induction on Sunday afternoon in Cooperstown, New York.

LOUDONVILLE, N.Y. » The Saints added a pair of three-star recruits to their women’s tennis program. After having the best season in their history, the Saints are trying to make it to the NCAA Tournament next spring. The two athletes that were added are Kylie Mullaney and Nanea Perkins. Mullaney comes from Minnesota, while Perkins is a Hawaii native.

“Nanea signed in the early NLI period and will bring a great all around type play to the court with a fierce forehand and

great volleys,” said head coach Jeff Osborn.

“She looks to move to the net and put away points, although she has a very small frame do not let that fool you.

She brings a huge game and I expect her to compete for a starting spot in lineup from day 1 with a very talented Siena Women’s tennis team.”
