SARATOGA SPRINGS Mortimer (Mort) William Zelikofsky of Saratoga Springs, NY passed away peacefully at his home on Friday July 28, 2017, at the age of 83.

Born in Saratoga Springs on November 21, 1934, he was one of two children of the late Louis and Dorothy (Rosenthal) Zelikofsky.

After graduating from School #7 in Saratoga, Mort went off to college at St. Lawrence University where he received his Bachelors of Science degree in Psychology. Later he went on to join the US Army Reserves. After college, Mort went to work at Gimbels in Pittsburg, PA, where he met his wife, Mathilda. They spent 48 wonderful years together before her passing in 2013.

He also worked at Montgomery Wards retail store in Schenectad­y and Herkimer. Mort was a lifelong “Saratogian”, spending a few hours every day at the Saratoga Springs Library to read and socialize. He also enjoyed his time as a member of the Jewish War Veterans Post #36 in Saratoga Springs. He enjoyed spending and giving his time to the Jewish Temple. Mort loved all sports and played basketball in school for a number of years. Living in Saratoga Springs, Mort loved racing season and watching the horse races from the comfort of his chair.

Mort is predecease­d by his parents. He is survived by his only sister Iris (Dr. Irwin) Friedman, 3 nieces and nephews, 8 grandniece­s and nephews and 6 great-grand nieces and nephews. Mort loved to spend time his family, and he will be greatly missed.

Funeral services were held on Monday July 31, 2017 at the Congregati­on Shaara Tfille, 84 Weibel Ave. Saratoga Springs, NY. at 10 AM. Burial was held directly after the service at the Jewish Community Center Cemetery next to the Synagogue.
