Hike, history tour set
Guided family outing on Aug. 17
HADLEY, N.Y. » A guided Take-A-Hike family outing is planned for Thursday, Aug. 17 in Hadley.
Guide Steve Spelter will lead the way to an afternoon adventure exploring nature and hiking.
Two hikes are available — one to Bear Slides in Lake Luzerne, or a more strenuous trek to the restored fire tower atop Hadley Mountain, whose elevation is 2,653 feet.
Hikers should bring a water bottle, bug spray and backpack, and wear appropriate footwear. Reservations, which includes lunch, must be made by calling (518) 696-5312.
A separate event is also scheduled for Thursday, Aug. 17.
Along Main Street is a guided tour to local museums, shops, art galleries, antique shops and a farmer’s market, led by Sue Trentecoste, who will explain the history Lake Luzerne and Hadley. The tour includes a ride over the historic Bow Bridge, four historic sites in downtown Lake Luzerne — The Pagenstecher Pulp Mill Museum, the Gailey Hill one-room school house, the Kinnear House Museum of Local History and the Rockwell-Harmon Cottage and Visitor Center.
The tour begins at Some Favorite Things Gallery, 315 Old Corinth Rd., next to the Hadley Post Office.
