Sunday, Aug. 6 BLESSING OF ANIMALS:
The Unitarian Universalist Congregation of Saratoga Springs welcomes all pets and their families to its annual “Blessing of Animals” service being held on Sunday, August 6, at 10 a.m. at 624 North Broadway, Saratoga Springs. Jill Perkins, Board Member of H.O.P.E. (Homes for Orphaned Pets Exist) will be the guest speaker. Offerings from this service will be donated to H.O.P.E. and donations of pet food are welcome. This service will include a ritual to remember beloved pets and attendees are encouraged to bring a memento of a pet they have loved and lost. The Long Lake Public Library’s Cafe Livre hosts The Gibson Brothers on Sunday, August 6, at 7 p.m. at the Long Lake Central School. The two-time International Bluegrass Music Association Entertainers of the Year have followed up their stellar, 5-times nominated tribute to brother harmonies, Brotherhood, with their first-ever album of entirely original songs, “In the Ground.” Presale Tickets are available for $20, with tickets at the door for $25. HISTORY STROLL:
Saratoga Spa State Park docent programs will be offered daily through Labor Day Monday, September 4. Discover park history on a short walk to learn about historic uses for mineral waters, the 1930s spa complex for research and medical treatment, and other park history highlights. Program meets up at 11 a.m., 1 p.m. and 3 p.m. at the arcade, outside the administration building, 19 Roosevelt Drive, Saratoga Springs.
HOWLIN’ AT THE MOON:
August’s “Howlin’ At the Moon” concert featuring Running the River will be held in the Dutch Barn at Mabee Farm, 1100 Main Street, Rotterdam Junction. NOT JUST FOR KIDS STORYTELLING:
Storyteller Elizabeth Ellis will be performing at Schoharie Crossing State Historic Site on Sunday, August 6 at 6 p.m. as part of the annual Not Just for Kids Storytelling series. Her performance will take place outdoors in front of the Schoharie Crossing Visitor Center on Schoharie Street in Fort Hunter. The show will move indoors in case of rain. Guests are invited to linger, chat, and enjoy refreshments after the show. The event is free. The Not Just for Kids Storytelling series continues throughout August and into September. SARATOGA SPRINGS SUMMER STROLL:
The Saratoga Springs Preservation Foundation presents “Here Lies Saratoga’s Past: Greenridge Cemetery,” at 10:30 a.m. Learn about the beautiful and unusual crypts and mausoleums of Greenridge Cemetery, while exploring the history of some of Saratoga’s most prominent citizens with tour leader Jan Klassovity. The tour meets at the Sackett Gates entrance of Greenridge Cemetery on Lincoln Avenue. Longfellows Hotel & Restaurant is the sponsor for this Greenridge Cemetery tour. $5 for SSPF members and $8 for non-members. Guests may buy a ticket for four tours and receive the fifth free. You have heard about the notables, but here is a chance to learn about the more obscure and intriguing tales of this truly historical mosaic of 33,000 Schenectadians. CAMP SARATOGA 5K: The Camp Saratoga 5K Trail Series continues Monday, August 7, at 6:15 p.m. at Camp Saratoga, Wilton Wildlife Preserve and Park. The races are open to all. Registration is $5 at the door. Proceeds benefit the Wilton Wildlife Preserve and Saratoga Spa State Park. Refreshments and raffle prizes will be given out after the race.
