BEST IN PINK
NYRA raises funds for Breast Cancer Research Foundation
SARATOGA SPRINGS, N.Y.» The New York Racing Association celebrated women and their contributions to the thoroughbred industry while raising funds to support the Breast Cancer Research Foundation during Fabulous Fillies Day at Saratoga Race Course Thursday.
The highlight of the celebration took place in an all-new “Best in Pink” fashion contest, allowing fans to have their pictures taken by On the Spot photos. After two hours worth of fans showing off their best pink outfit, judges selected two winners: a man and a woman for a special prize package valued at about $2,000.
Christine Schneider from Greenlawn, NY and Bev Hendry from Ocala, FL were the winners of the inaugural contest. Prices included Vineyard Vines clothing, a $500 Prime gift card, NYRA merchandise, $500 Vineyard Vines gift card, four Travers Clubhouse reserved seats, parking and programs and $100 Centerplate gift card.
Vineyard Vines sponsored The Sizzling Hot Pink Saratoga Hat Luncheon to kick-off Thursday’s festivities.
The event took place in the At the Rail Pavilion, inviting guests to enjoy a champagne reception hosted by Moet & Chandon and a Vineyard
Vines boutique. A portion of proceeds from boutique sales were donated to the Breast Cancer Research Foundation.
The luncheon honoree this year was Sheila Rosenblum, owner of Lady Sheila Stable. All proceeds from ticket sales to the luncheon benefit BCRF through Play for P.I.N.K.
The sixth race of the day was named for the Breast Cancer Research Foundation Play for P.I.N.K. All horses in the race wore pink saddle cloths. All jockeys riding the day’s card wore pink armbands to commemorate the occasion.
At the community outreach booth, Floyd Warriors, an organization dedicated to supporting and inspiring individuals and families of the Capital Region who have been recently diagnosed with cancer, provided information and accepted donations throughout the day. Mark, Noelle and Stephanie Lo Porto enjoyed a beautiful Thursday at the track. Nashata Samee and Jad El’Esencio enjoy the track Thursday afternoon.
