SARATOGA SPRINGS, N.Y. » Between 2010 and 2015, the average sale price and average median price at FasigTipton’s New York-bred Preferred Yearling Sale more than doubled, topping out at an average price of $81,739 and median of $65,000 in 2015. Gross sales during the fiveyear span nearly quadrupled from $3,676,000 to $13,672,500.

Last year the upward trend took a step backward, with average dipping 5.5 percent and median 7.7 percent.

This summer’s sale, which will be held Saturday and Sunday evening at the Humphrey S. Finney Pavilion, will be looking to get headed in the right direction again. The New York-bred sale follows this year’s highly successful Saratoga Select Sale which concluded on Tuesday with substantial gains over 2016.

The best advertisement for any thoroughbred sale is of course success for its graduates on the racetrack, and this year’s Fasig-Tipton New York-bred sale has a couple of stars to point to. Mind Your Biscuits, a two-time Grade/Group 1 winner and the 2016 New York-bred Horse of the Year, was a $47,000 buy-back at the 2014 sale. Haveyougoneaway, a $105,000 purchase at the 2012 sale, won of the Ballerina (G1) and Honorable Miss (G2) last summer at Saratoga.

Yearlings of special interest this year include hip no. 382, a halfbrother to Haveyougoneaway by the Speightstown stallion Central Banker. Hip no. 348 is a filly by Quality Road out of multiple Grade 1 winner Megahertz. Hip no. 504 is a Scat Daddy colt and the seventh foal out of Acey Deucey, a Grade 1 winner whose biggest victory came in the 2005 Prioress.

Other half-siblings to Grade 1 winners include hip no. 323, a colt by Goldencents out of Jessica’s Halo (by Jolie’s Halo), who is a half to Jessica is Back (Princess Rooney); hip no. 331, a colt by Take Charge Indy out of Latin Lynx (by Forest Wildcat), who is a half to Sean Avery (A. G. Vanderbilt); and hip no. 339, a colt by Cairo Prince out of Maggies Storm (by Stormy Atlantic), who is a half to Comma to the Top (CashCall Futurity).
