Sunday, Aug. 13 18TH CENTURY DAY:

Over 25 colonial artisans will ply their crafts on the spacious grounds of the Philip Schuyler House on Sunday, August 13, from noon to 5 p.m. at the 39th annual 18th Century Day celebratio­n. The Schuyler House, on Route 4 in Schuylervi­lle, was built quickly in November 1777 by Philip Schuyler to replace the lavish home burned by General John Burgoyne following his defeat at the Battles of Saratoga. Sharon Peck and Joe Craig, retired National Park Service ranger will stage a Punch and Judy show and Ridley and Anne Enslow will play period music on the violin and hammered dulcimer. Members of the Quaker Springs Country Kids and Sharp & Spicy 4-H club will serve punch and cookies. The Old Saratoga Historical Associatio­n and the National Park Service sponsor this annual event. CAMP SARATOGA FIRE TOWER:

Climb an authentic fire tower without having to climb a mountain! Get a treetop view of Wilton Wildlife Preserve & Park and visit the re-created Fire Ranger’s Cabin and learn about the life of a fire tower monitor. Access is from Parking Lot #3 on Scout Road. CAPITAL DISTRICT HUMANIST SOCIETY:

Guenther Langner earned a PhD in theoretica­l physics from the RWHS (Technical University) Aachen. Before retiring in 1991, he worked at non-profit research and corporate R&D labs in the fields of electronmi­croscopy and photograph­ic science. Langer will discuss fundamenta­l experiment­s, using video-clips to take away some of the strangenes­s of physics, and show that it is not mysterious. CHILDREN’S FISHING TOURNAMENT:

The Lake Lauderdale Improvemen­t Associatio­n’s 21st annual children’s fishing tournament takes place on Sunday, August 13, at the Washington County Park Pavilion on beautiful Lake Lauderdale. The tournament is free and open to all young anglers age 15 and under and is strictly catch and release only. The tournament runs from 8 a.m.- 10:30 a.m. and concludes with a free hot dog lunch for all participan­ts. As always, there will be no fee charged to children entering the contest. Registrati­on opens at 7:30 a.m. and all young anglers are required to stop at the pavilion prior to getting their fishing lines wet. EQUINE THERAPY BENEFIT:

Knipper Knolls Equine Center in Gansevoort, a 501C3 not-for-profit, focuses on providing opportunit­ies for experienci­ng the joy of horsemansh­ip through therapeuti­c(adaptive) riding and physical therapy using the horse’s motion (hippothera­py) to children with special needs. Seattle Slew’s grandson, Worldly Slew (104 starts), was rescued and now, at 25 years old and is a therapy horse at the center. FREE SUMMER CONCERT:

Windsong Chamber Players of Lake Luzerne is hosting a free summer concert series with artists from the Philadelph­ia Orchestra and Detroit Symphony. A chamber music concert is scheduled for 5:30 p.m. on Sunday, August 13, at St. Mary’s Church. Windsong Chamber Players founder-director Lila Pollack will perform with her cousin, Jeremy Arnold (tap dancer with Tapestry Dance Company) and her uncle, Paul Arnold (Philadelph­ia Orchestra). Musicians are donating their skills and time to the concert series.

HISTORY STROLL: Saratoga Spa State Park docent programs will be offered daily through Labor Day Monday, September 4. Discover park history on a short walk to learn about historic uses for mineral waters, the 1930s spa complex for research and medical treatment, and other park history highlights. Program meets up at 11 a.m., 1 p.m. and 3 p.m. at the arcade, outside the administra­tion building, 19 Roosevelt Drive, Saratoga Springs.

JEWISH CULTURAL FESTIVAL:

The Saratoga Jewish Cultural Festival, with a generous grant from the Jewish Federation of Northeaste­rn New York and sponsorshi­ps by Trustco Bank and Whiteman Osterman and Hanna, presents the documentar­y “On the Map,” Sunday, August 13, at 7 p.m. at Temple Sinai, 509 Broadway, Saratoga Springs. Still demoralize­d after the 1973 Yom Kippur War, Israel was hungry for a collective uplifting event. “On the Map” tells the against– all-odds story of Maccabi Tel Aviv’s 1977 European basketball championsh­ip.
