Reggie, Goose, Boggs set for Saratoga event
SARATOGA SPRINGS, N.Y. » Forty years ago this fall Reggie Jackson made baseball history by hitting three home runs in World Series-clinching Game 6 against the Los Angeles Dodgers.
The feat forever solidified his reputation as “Mr. October.”
On Saturday, Sept. 23, Jackson will lead a lineup of New York sports legends scheduled to appear at an All-Star Sports Festival, at Saratoga Casino Hotel.
The day-long event includes a VIP brunch with question-andanswer session, followed by a celebrity softball game, and autograph-photo opportunities.
Proceeds will benefit Ronald McDonald Charities of the Capital Region.
“We are honored to be part of what will be an incredible event and experience for our community,” Executive Director Jeff Yule said. “The money raised will directly benefit our families by keeping them together, and providing for all their needs, as their child battles a life-threatening situation.”
Other athletes scheduled to appear are Jackson’s 1977 Yankee teammates Graig Nettles and Mickey Rivers, Yankee Hall of Famers Goose Gossage and Wade Boggs, former Oakland A’s slugger Jose Canseco, New York Giants football greats Lawrence Taylor and Otis Anderson, and Triple Crown-winning jockeys Ron Turcotte (Secretariat),
Steve Cauthen (Affirmed) and Jean Cruguet (Seattle Slew).
In addition, popular local bands The Refrigerators and Skeeter Creek will perform and a variety of local food trucks will be on hand throughout the day.
The day will begin at 9 a.m. with a ticketed VIP brunch in Vapor, the hotel’s entertainment venue. Tickets are $60 and space is limited.
During the brunch, News Channel 13’s Chris Onorato will lead a question-and-answer progarm with athletes.
A noon-time softball game featuring athletes, casino officials and event sponsors will take place on the hotel grounds. Children 12 and under will be admitted free. General admission tickets are $10.
Immediately after the game, athletes will be available for autographs and photos on a rotating schedule. There is fee for autographs, which varies depending on the athlete.
Tickets for the brunch and softball game may be purchased at SaratogaCasino.com.
Admission to the grounds is free, for music and food trucks.
“We look forward to welcoming generations of fans to our property for unprecedented access to some of the biggest names in sports,” said Tom Wiedmayer, hotel general manager.
