Win spots in celebrity softball game

SARATOGA SPRINGS, N.Y. » Two contest winners will have a chance to play in a celebrity softball game featuring Reggie Jackson, Goose Gossage and other sports legends at Saratoga Casino Hotel on Saturday, Sept. 23

The game is part of an All-Star Sports Festival the casino is hosting that day, with a portion of proceeds will benefit Ronald McDonald House Charities of the Capital Region.

Interested participan­ts may visit Saratoga Casino Hotel’s Facebook page and submit a photo of showing their “game face” and tag the names of four friends they would bring to the game. Submission­s will be accepted through Thursday, with two winners randomly selected Friday. Participan­ts must be 18 years of age or older.

Other athletes confirmed to attend the festival are baseball stars Wade Boggs, Jose Canseco, Mickey Rivers and Graig Nettles, football greats Lawrence Taylor and Otis Anderson and legendary jockeys Ron Turcotte, Jean Cruguet and Steve Cauthen. Recently, Hall of Fame shortstop Ozzie Smith and Saratoga racing legend Angel Cordero were added to the lineup. A full roster is available at http://SaratogaCa­sino.com.

The marquee event of the day takes place at noon, when two teams of the athletes will play an exhibition softball game on a field constructe­d at the hotel. Legendary racing announcer Tom Durkin will provide commentary throughout the game.

Both winners of the social media contest will receive a roster spot, four tickets to the game and a custom jersey that will be worn by all players.

Following the game, local bands The Refrigerat­ors and Skeeter Creek will perform on an outdoor stage, with a variety of local food trucks on hand. The athletes will be available during an autograph and memorabili­a show where guests can purchase exclusive merchandis­e, autographs and photo opportunit­ies with their favorite players.

Tickets for the softball game are $10, free for children ages 12 and younger and are available on the Saratoga Casino Hotel website.
