Troy crushes Bethlehem to improve to 4-0

Sports Staff TROY, N.Y. » Troy High, the defending Class AA state champs and the current No. 1 ranked team in New York, celebrated homecoming with a 49-3 win over Bethlehem Friday night.

Dev Holmes opened the scoring on a 60-yard punt return for a touchdown then scored on a carry in the second quarter to make it 28-3 at half. Holmes completed his hat trick with a touchdown reception in the second half. Joey Ward ran for two touchdowns in the contest while Joe Casale threw touchdown passes to Matt Ashley and Holmes.

Xavier Leigh scored a late touchdown for the undefeated Flying Horses (4-0).

Bethlehem fell to 1-3 on the season. SARATOGA 14, CBA 0 » The Blue Streaks moved to 4-0 on the year and stand atop the Empire Division with a commanding 3-0 record after its defense shut out the Brothers Friday night on the road.

Saratoga caused three turnovers in the first half, recovering two fumbles and sacking the CBA punter after a bad snap controllin­g the fist half’s time of possession.

Senior quarterbac­k Wes Eglintine his Lewi Clarke for an 11-yard TD pass on the opening possession and after the punt/sack he found Carter Steingrabe­r in the corner of the end zone at the end of the half.

He also hauled in two touchdown passes for 118 yards on just two receptions for a three touchdown night.

Plainsmen quarterbac­k Brendan Belott was a racked up fantasy points in the Section II league with 269 yards on 7-for-9 passing and four touchdowns. Tailback Gabe Cruz tacked on 96 yards and a score during his three carries in the contest. GUILDERLAN­D 42, BALLSTON SPA 0 » Guilderlan­d controlled possession of the football and the scoreboard Friday night, shutting out Ballston Spa.

Guilderlan­d senior running back Joe Park ran for more 100 yards and a touchdown and caught two additional passes for scores for the Dutchmen. Ballston Spa running back Jason McCarthy led the Scotties with 102 yards rushing on 22 carries. SHAKER 48, LA SALLE 0 » Ravion Burt ran for three touchdowns, the first three touchdowns of the game and Shaker blanked La Salle 480. The Blue Bison scored six touchdowns on the ground and McHugh had one passing TD and completed 6-of-7 attempts in the air for 118. Shaker lead 28-0 at halftime and scored 20 points in the second half. COLUMBIA 20, SCHENECTAD­Y 18» Columbia got another win under new head coach Bob Treacy, squeaking past Schenectad­y by two points. The loss was the fourth for Schenectad­y to start the season.
