MOREAU LAKE STATE PARK:

Saratoga Knights of Columbus invite the public to a Soup and Sandwich Supper on Thursday, October 5. The proceeds will benefit Father Tracey, a local priest who has made his mission to help those in Brazil. The Saratoga Springs City School District will honor seven outstandin­g individual­s for their extraordin­ary contributi­ons to athletics during the 2017 Blue Streak Athletic Hall of Fame induction ceremony at 4:30 p.m. Friday, October 6, in the Robert Meade Teaching Auditorium at Saratoga Springs High School. This year’s inductees are Jen Dryer (Pennell), Robert Guglielmo, Matthew Kuenzel, Landon Moore, Madalayne Smith, Maureen Van Neste (Wickerham) and Jamie Welsh (Sweeney). A trophy case in the lobby of the “blue gym” will hold plaques in honor of the Hall of Fame members.

CHRISTIE’S HEARTOBERF­EST: The 12th annual Christie’s Heartoberf­est will be held on October 7 in memory of Christie Tolosky, local graduate of Shenendeho­wa High and Siena College, who died suddenly in 2005 at the age of 24. The Tolosky family will host an Octoberfes­t-style event at the Orenda Pavilion in the Saratoga State Park at 1 p.m. with beer, food, auctions and raffles. Heartoberf­est raises awareness for Long QT Syndrome, an electrical disturbanc­e of the heart, which causes an abnormal heart rate that can lead to fainting episodes and can lead to sudden cardiac death. The event is open to the public. All proceeds benefit the Sudden Arrhythmia Death Syndrome Foundation. BATTLES OF SARATOGA: October 7, 2017 marks exactly the 240th anniversar­y of the Second Battle of Saratoga. In 1777, the British built the “army’s strongest post”, known today as Balcarres Redoubt, in an effort to win the Battles of Saratoga. Step onto the very same ground and join living history reenactors as they portray British Redcoat soldiers and followers, American Loyalists, and a French Canandien to recount the events of that day. A special historian-led guided tour will be offered on Saturday, October 7. The camp, located at Stop 6 at Saratoga National Historic Park in Stillwater, will be open Saturday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. and on Sunday, October 8, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. The event is free.
