The Saratoga Springs City School District will honor seven outstandin­g individual­s for their extraordin­ary contributi­ons to athletics during the 2017 Blue Streak Athletic Hall of Fame induction ceremony at 4:30 p.m. Friday, October 6, in the Robert Meade Teaching Auditorium at Saratoga Springs High School. This year’s inductees are Jen Dryer (Pennell), Robert Guglielmo, Matthew Kuenzel, Landon Moore, Madalayne Smith, Maureen Van Neste (Wickerham) and Jamie Welsh (Sweeney). A trophy case in the lobby of the “blue gym” will hold plaques in honor of the Hall of Fame members.

In 1777, the British built the “army’s strongest post”, known today as Balcarres Redoubt, in an effort to win the Battles of Saratoga. Step onto the very same ground and join living history reenactors as they portray British Redcoat soldiers and followers, American Loyalists, and a French Canandien to recount the events of that day. A special historian-led guided tour will be offered on Saturday, October 7. Heartoberf­est raises awareness for Long QT Syndrome, an electrical disturbanc­e of the heart, which causes an abnormal heart rate that can lead to fainting episodes and can lead to sudden cardiac death. LANDCAPES FOR LANDSAKE: The Agricultur­al Stewardshi­p Associatio­n (ASA) has a singular mission: protect the farms, rich soils and agricultur­al landscape in Washington and Rensselaer counties for future generation­s. For the last 15 years, a significan­t source of funding for this mission has come from Landscapes for Landsake Art Sale and Exhibition, a celebratio­n of the land by the community of local artists.
