BATTLES OF SARATOGA: October 7, 2017 marks exactly the 240th anniversary of the Second Battle of Saratoga. In 1777, the British built the “army’s strongest post”, known today as Balcarres Redoubt, in an effort to win the Battles of Saratoga. Step onto the very same ground and join living history reenactors as they portray British Redcoat soldiers and followers, American Loyalists, and a French Canandien to recount the events of that day. The camp, located at Stop 6 at Saratoga National Historic Park in Stillwater, will be open October 7 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. and October 8 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. The event is free. BREAKFAST BUFFET: Ballston Spa Elks Lodge’s All You Can Eat Breakfast Buffet will be held on Sunday October 8, from 8 a.m. to 11 a.m. The buffet includes scrambled eggs, home fries, French toast, sausage, toast, pancakes, eggs and omelets to order. BURGOYNE’S BRIDGE FUN RUN: Runners, walkers and joggers are invited to participate in the Burgoyne’s Bridge 5K Family Fun Run on Sunday, October 8, starting at 11 a.m. at Hudson Crossing Park, located just north of Schuylerville. Registrants will be randomly assigned to the “British Red Coats” or the “Blue American Forces” in recognition of the area’s historical importance in the Revolutionary War. Local products will be offered as prizes for unique award categories. $25/person, $60 for families registering three or more participants. CHIROPRACTIC PRESENTATION: Dr. Joe Gulyas provides an overview of Chiropractic, a controversial form of alternative medicine mostly concerned with the diagnosis and treatment of mechanical disorders of the musculoskeletal system, especially the spine. The American Medical Association called chiropractic an “unscientific cult” in 1966 and boycotted it until losing an antitrust case in 1987. PANCAKE BREAKFAST: On Sunday, October 8, as part of the Clifton Park Fire Department’s 80th anniversary celebration weekend and the kick off to National Fire Prevention Week, the monthly Pancake Breakfast will be held from 8 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. at the firehouse, at 38 Old Route 146, in Clifton Park, between Route 146 and Route 9, on what is also known as Fire Road. LANDCAPES FOR LANDSAKE: The Agricultural Stewardship Association (ASA) has a singular mission: protect the farms, rich soils and agricultural landscape in Washington and Rensselaer counties for future generations. For the last 15 years, significant funding for this mission has come from Landscapes for Landsake Art Sale and Exhibition, a celebration of the land by local artists. This year’s exhibition features 58 artists, including thirteen first-time participants. Several artists will be on hand to discuss their work throughout the weekend. The sale takes place in the historic barn at Maple Ridge, 172 State Route 372 in the hamlet of Coila, just west of the Village of Cambridge.
