SCC girls volleyball still unbeaten

SARATOGA SPRINGS, N.Y. » The undefeated Saratoga Catholic girls volleyball team beat Berlin 25-3, 25-3, 25-7 Wednesday in a Wasaren League match. Mandy Bartoszek had five aces for Saratoga Catholic, Elise Browell added 10 aces and 14 assists, Kennedy Murphy finished with five aces and three kills, and MaryClare Pikus added four digs. The Saints are 15-0 in the league and host Cambridge on Friday. AVERILL PARK 3, SHAKER 0 » The Warriors defeated the Blue Bison 25-16, 25-18, 25-12. Averill Park improves to 11-3 in the league and 14-3 overall. Shaker is now 7-6 in the league.

For Averill Park, Sydney Jones had 33 assists, Stephanie Jankovic had 23 digs, Jenna Miller had 15 digs, Maddy Dunigan had 18 kills, and Marissa Nagel had five kills.

The Bison were led by Sam Hardwick with two kills and five digs. Hannah Malicki had one block, seven assists, and 10 digs. SARATOGA SPRINGS 3, SCHENECTAD­Y0» The Blue Streaks swept the Patriots 25-21, 25-15, 26-24. Goldie Hellman finished with four ces, nine kills and two digs

for Saratoga and Grace Schmidt tallied three aces, nine kills and two blocks. BALLSTON SPA 3, COLUMBIA 2 » The Scotties rallied to beat the Blue Devils 23-25, 25-21, 14-25, 25-14, 25-23. Lauren Kersch has 26 assists for Ballston Spa while Angelina Stile had 23 digs, Madison Amico added 17 kills for the Scotties.

For Columbia, Chesney Romer had 18 kills and Emily Powell had eight kills and 22 digs. Julia Lettrick had 39 assists, five aces, and 10 digs.

NISKAYUNA 98, SARATOGA SPRINGS 85 » The Silver Warriors edged the Blue Streaks who honored seniors Deysi Bollinger, Gabriella Cusick, Nicole Murphy, Taylor Patnode, Ella Valdimarss­on, Michelle Zheng, Samantha Badar, and Katrina Davis. Murphy earned a win for Saratoga Springs in the 100 breast stroke and helped the 400 freestyle relay team to victory.

BALLSTON SPA 5, ALBANY 0 » The Scotties won their Section II opener Wednesday to advance to Friday’s Class AA quarterfin­al at Bethlehem. Ballston Spa’s Caitlin Wania assisted Sarah Rule for the opening goal, then Rule found the net again off of a Maura Smith pass to make it 2-0. The second half goals started with Wania winning the ball in the midfield and scoring on a nice solo effort. Lily Urban played Kristen Lewza who scored the fourth goal on a near post shot and Emily Heim scored the fifth and final goal of the game off of a Morgan Relyea cross.

GREENWICH 5, STILLWATER 1 » Greenwich (6-12) won to advance to the semifinal round of the Section II Class CC tournament. The opening goal of the game came in the 28th minute when Christian O’Brien collected the ball off a rebound and placed it into the side of the net. With one minute remaining in the half, Johnny Swertner sent Henry Hansen through the defense to make it 2-0. In the first 10 minutes of the second half Greenwich scored three more goals. Hansen got his second goal off an Ellis Pemrick’s assist. Pemrick then took a Charlie Gartner assist for a goal before Gartner scored himself from a Swertner assist. In the 57th minute of the second half Jake Zdonick scored on a beautifull­y placed direct kick for the only Stillwater (11-4-2) goal. MECHANICVI­LLE 2, CATHOLIC HIGH 0 » The Red Raiders got on the board when Kevin Charette found Marcus Tobin, who scored to make it 1-0. Mechanicvi­lle’s second goal was scored on a nice feed from Rocco Devito to Zack Rapaccioul­o, who hammered home the 25 yard shot. Tyler Krasewski made three saves for the Raiders to earn the shutout. Mechanicvi­lle advances to play Catskill Saturday in a Section II Class B quarterfin­al.

BETHLEHEM 3, SARATOGA SPRINGS 0 » The Eagles won 25-19, 25-12, 25-11. Matt Myers had four kills and two blocks for the Blue Streaks, Justin Geils had four kills and Quinn Montgomery provided five assists.
