Hollywood shows no consistency with morals

-

Harvey Weinstein redux: Two weeks ago, if someone were to have asked me who this guy was, my response would not have been given much credence. Sure, we have all seen his picture along with other better-known Hollywood celebrities. We would have known these others because we have watched their films and have listened to their proselytizing during Oscar presentations, witnessed their objections to the new White House occupants on late-night talk show television on which they have been guests, and we have been made to feel belittled when these kings and queens of the silver screen pedantically rant and tell us that the American President is against women. One of the latest accusations has the currentpPresident being sexist because he suggested that women pay for their own birth control devices, something men have been doing for seventy years or more. Yet, Mr. Weinstein appears on the scene and disrupts the entire agenda. Now accused of sexual misconduct by more women than most attorneys can count, this paragon of Hollywood glamour and friend of everyone who has pointed the finger of guilt at a lot of other Americans, is now considered to be the pariah of the jet-setting Hollywood crowd. But, the time it took to disclaim the fondling, propositioning and direct bodily harassment of Hollywood starlets by Mr. Weinstein was astonishingly long in coming. Some of the victims of Mr. Weinstein’s unwholesome attentions claimed, “But, I had no idea...I was not aware...” Yep, he, the star maker, was hiding in plain sight. But, Hollywood heroes, no longer held in such high esteem by the American public after the uncovering of this sexual predator, have had other occasions for concern. In 1975, Roman Polanski fled to France to escape prosecution for having raped a thirteen-year old girl in his Hollywood home. Thirty years later, this same sexual monster was given a standing ovation at the 2004 Oscar ceremony by Hollywood’s elite. Yep, they were all there, and they were only too willing to tell other Americans that they were guilty of not supporting women’s rights. Huh?
