Stinky Dog store to close
Character set to star in animated videos on YouTube
The Stinky Dog store in downtown Saratoga Springs is scheduled to close, but its mascot Stinky still has future plans.
Stinky Dog founder and owner Samantha McCullough recently announced that the 488 Broadway store will close its doors on Sunday.
“The Stinky Dog Store has been a fun-filled store catering to humans as well as dogs and cats for the past three years,” a press release said.
Though the store was successful, McCullough decided to close it for a few reasons: to be with family and to start another Stinky Dog project, she said, calling it a difficult decision.
McCullough said that she is saddened to close this happy store but finds it important to spend more time with her husband and her two sons and pursue her dreams of Stinky animation.
A video series of animated Stinky Shorts is expected to launch on YouTube in November. McCullough has wanted Stinky Dog to be an animated character for some years, and the idea solidified a few months ago when she connected with Ballston Lake-based animator Yoshi Killough.
“I’m bringing Stinky to life,” McCullough said. “That’s always been the ultimate dream for Stinky.”
Once the video series is underway, the next goal is to pitch the Stinky Shorts to large studios like Nickelodeon and Disney, McCullough said.
As she prepares to close up shop, McCullough said she is thankful to the Saratoga community for its support and friendship during the store’s duration. “Really and truly I made lifelong friends,” she said, noting that in addition to local regulars, people from all over the world would visit Stinky Dog.
Stinky Dog will offer major in-store markdowns all weekend. Currently all art is half price. The store is also selling its fixtures and displays.
The store will participate in Saturday’s 16th annual Saratoga
Downtown Business Association Fall Festival with a Stinky-drawing contest. A winner will receive a large Stinky Dog pillow.
While she’s sad to leave the Broadway store and Saratoga Springs community behind, McCullough said, “I’m excited for the stinky future.”
Much of the Stinky Dog merchandise sold at the Spa City shop will be available online store at stinkydog. com and on Amazon.com.
