The Saratogian (Saratoga, NY)

No on-the-job training needed for Spa City court post

- By Andrew Blumenberg For The Saratogian Andrew Blumenberg is a candidate for Saratoga Springs city court judge.

Some lawyers utilize their law degrees to work at highpowered law firms where they represent the top 1 percent and corporate interests. I chose a different path completely. For the better part of the last twenty years I’ve dedicated my career to representing less fortunate clients accused of crimes in criminal court. I am proud of this record of public service and believe it will translate well both to the City Court bench and the people of this community.

As the First Assistant Public Defender for Saratoga County I take my role in the justice system with a deep sense of responsibility and patriotism. In some of my over 5,000 cases that I’ve defended in City Court, I meet my clients just briefly before heading into the courtroom. It’s my job to think quickly and provide legal advice to assist these people regardless of their background or their crimes.

That’s why I won’t need on the job training in City Court. There isn’t a more experienced litigator in City Court because I’ve spent ten years representing thousands of clients in front of the bench. I thoroughly understand the legal nuances of New York criminal law and won’t be making guesswork of legal rulings.

My experience in City Court is just one of the reasons why I earned endorsements from retired Supreme Court Justice Frank Williams, and retired Saratoga County Court Judge Jerry Scarano. They know firsthand what it takes to be a fair and impartial judge, and have endorsed my candidacy whole heartedly.

I believe that my twenty years of hard earned experience in the courtroom, the last ten of which has been in the Saratoga County Public Defender’s Office, has equipped me well to preside over the large and challenging caseload in Saratoga Springs City Court where it’s important to instantaneously discern people who pose a threat to the community while at the same time ensure that justice is fairly and evenly dispensed to the many people who come before the bench.

As you stand in front of the voting booth, picture yourself standing inside City Court: as you stand there facing fines or a fight for your freedom, would you want a judge presiding before you that has never heard your type of case before? Or would it be better for the judge presiding over your case to have handled thousands of cases just like yours?

I humbly submit my proven, trusted experience for your consideration on Election Day.
