Program to feed seniors
BALLSTON SPA, N.Y. » Sales of reusable Hannaford shopping bags will help stamp out hunger among seniors.
Saratoga County Office for the Aging will get 25 cents from the sale of every “Fight Hunger” bag purchased in November at the Ballston Lake Hannaford store.
Money will support the county’s senior nutrition and home delivered meals programs.
“The funds raised from this partnership will help us continue to provide home delivered meals as well as other services,” said Sandi Cross, Office for the Aging director. “We are grateful to have support from the community and pleased to uphold our commitment to assist our older citizens in retaining their independence. We thank Hannaford for their collaboration and support of this important initiative and encourage
all county residents to buy a bag. It’s good for the environment and supports our seniors.”
The senior nutrition and home delivered meals programs are paid for by Saratoga County, and supplemented by individual and corporate donations from partners like such as Hannaford. Meals are delivered by volunteers to local seniors who are primarily homebound and unable to prepare meals or shop for groceries, a news release said.
The primary mission of the Office for the Aging is helping seniors maintain their independence.
Volunteers are always needed, the release said.
