Ski expo returns this weekend

- By Dick Healy sports@saratogian.com

This coming weekend doesn’t officially begin the 2017/2018 onthe-snow ski/snowboard season, though early season skiing isn’t far off.

Especially when assisted by state-of-art snowmaking technology.

To get a handle of what’s in store at ski resorts (East and West) winter sports shops, equipment and clothing, check out the Northeast Ski & Craft Beer Showcase that opens Friday afternoon and runs through Sunday.

The weekend event is sponsored by Alpin Haus. There is free parking in the Times Union Center garage – 100 Beaver Street. Show hours are: Friday, November 3 from 4-9 p.m., Saturday, November 4 from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. and Sunday, November 5 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Parking is free at 100 Beaver Street, Albany.

Unique to the show, as they it has been since its inception

years ago, is participation of member clubs of the New York Capital District Ski Council.

Adults and children skiers/riders should make it a point to talk to club representatives who will be available at their respective booths to answer questions. Members of NYCDSC can also take advantage of special Council Days, offered by several of the mountains throughout the season.

At last count there were 125 council days offered, and more being added each week. If you are a council club member in good standing, deep lift ticket discounts go with Council Days. For example, Bolton Valley in Vermont is offering a $40 lift ticked on certain council days, and Whiteface Mountain in Wilmington has tagged a Council Day lift ticket for $42. The days the discounts are being offered to council members will vary. Check with your club representative for full printable listings.
