ARTHUR MITCHELL MASTER CLASS: Arthur Mitchell, former New York City Ballet principal dancer and founder of Dance Theatre of Harlem, is one of the most influentia­l and pioneering figures in the history of dance. OLD CHATHAM QUAKERS: Old Chatham Quaker Meeting will screen “Paper Lanterns” Saturday, November 4. “Paper Lanterns” documents the story of Shigeaki Mori, a survivor of the atomic bombing of Hiroshima and his dream of reaching out to the relatives of twelve American POWs lost in the bombing. YADDO PRESENTS: Emmy Award-winning writer Matthew Weiner will appear at 7:30 p.m. at Gannett Auditorium, Skidmore College as part of the popular “Yaddo Presents” series, an ongoing collaborat­ion between Northshire Bookstore and the world-famous artist retreat Yaddo. Mr. Weiner will be interviewe­d on stage by Elaina Richardson, President of Yaddo, about his chilling debut novel, “Heather, the Totality,” written at Yaddo. HESTER STREET: A portrait of the Jewish immigrant experience at the turn of the 20th Century comes to Saratoga Jewish Community Arts November 12, at 7 p.m. with the classic 1975 film “Hester Street” at Temple Sinai, 509 Broadway. Added to the National Film Registry in 2011, “Hester Street” brings into focus the struggles and transforma­tions of the Jews who settled in the Lower East Side and tried to reconcile the ordered values they brought with them alongside the diverse opportunit­ies they found.
