Death of deputy mourned
BALLSTON SPA, N.Y. » Saratoga County Sheriff Michael Zurlo said Monday the department is in a “state of shock” over the death of a deputy Sunday.
John Brown was training for an ironman triathlon Sunday in Albany when he collapsed and died.
Zurlo said Brown was with the department for 15 years, working out of the Halfmoon station. He was temporarily assigned to the department’s investigation unit.
“He was a great guy ... great worker and served the county well,” Zurlo said.
According to a Facebook post by the Saratoga County Sheriff’s Office Deputy PBA, Brown was also a veteran of the Marine Corps.
“John had a huge smile and an unforgettable laugh,” the union’s post stated. “Rest easy Deputy John Brown, we have the watch from here.”
No further details were immediately released.
