Community tree lightings set Friday
BALLSTON SPA, N.Y. » Several local Christmas tree lighting events are planned Friday for residents to usher in the holiday season.
In Ballston Spa, the Business & Professional Association’s annual Holiday Parades steps off at 6:30 p.m., proceeding on Milton Avenue and ending at Wiswall Park on Front Street, with Santa lighting the tree.
The parade has fire trucks, floats, animals, and Santa accompanied by children.
It also provides an opportunity for people to contribute to Toys for Tots. Volunteers will be on hand to collect donations of new, unwrapped toys from spectators along the parade route, as well as at the Christmas tree lighting.
In Wilton, a tree lighting event is scheduled for Gavin Park beginning at 6 p.m., with songs led by Glenn Dorman at the piano, along with Frosty, Rudolph and Santa’s elves. Lights will go on at 6:30 p.m.
At 6:45 p.m., Santa will hand out candy, treats and gifts. Also, there will be holiday movies for young children.
Refreshments will be served from 7-8:30 p.m.
In Glens Falls, a Hometown Holidays event begins at 5 p.m. in City Park, including a ceremonial tree lighting at 5:45 p.m.
Once the tree is lit, Santa will greet everyone before heading off to Glens Falls National Bank where children can have their picture taken with him.
Maps will be provided showing the locations of various attractions such as live reindeer, musical performances, horse and wagon rides, costumed characters and shopping opportunities.
Trolleys will provide transportation to multiple venues featuring entertainment and activities for both children and adults. Saxophone Santa will perform Christmas melodies on trolleys.
A second day of Hometown Holidays is scheduled for Saturday. This includes a Holiday House Tour in the Broadacres neighborhood, family concert, spirits tasting and scavenger hunt.
