QUAKER SPRINGS - John W. Richards, 70, a resident of Spring Rd., in Quaker Springs, passed away Thursday, November 30, 2017 at his home.

Born November 28, 1947 in Saratoga Springs, NY he was the son of the late Clarence Richards and Arvessa Oakley Atwell.

Mr. Richards was a bat Veteran serving in Vietnam with the 101st Airborne Division InfanFulas try as a Squad Leader and then in 1969 as a Drill Sergeant at Fort Dix, NJ. He was awarded a Bronze Star, Air Medal, and many other medals. He worked 11 years with the National Guard as a policeman at Stratton Air Force Base in Scotia, and also for ton County Correction­s a Deputy Sheriff. He was involved with the Harness Horse Business until 1982, was a member of US TrotoutRac­ino. ting Assoc. and NYS Racing Assoc. He was a member of the American Legion Post # 490 in Stillwater and the VFW #420 in Saratoga Springs.

In addition to his parents, he was predecease­d by a brother, Patrick Richards and nephew Matthew Mi RichdaughB­all one chael.

Survivors include his wife Bonnie Ballone of Quaker Springs; son, Sean ards of Amsterdam; ter, Tiffany Southard of SC; stepson, James of Florida; stepdaught­er, Shelise Kramer of Saratoga Springs; 2 brothers, MiDaMisevn­ieces, chael (Wanda) Richards of Greenfield Center and vid Richards of Waterford; 2 sisters, Sandy Gailor of Arizona and Barbara kuta of Wisconsin; eral grandchild­ren, nephews, and close friends.

A funeral service will be held at 1:30pm, Tuesday, December 5, 2017 at Flynn Bros. Inc. Funeral Home, 13 Gates Ave., Schuylervi­lle, NY 12871. Burial will folSolat low at the Gerald BH omon Saratoga National Cemetery 2:30 pm.

Friends may call on day at the funeral home from 11:30am – 1:30pm prior to the service at the funeral home.
