Skidmore provides arts grants
Nonprofits in the area may apply for support
» The Skidmore College Arts Planning Group will provide more than $42,000 in grants to support arts organizations in Saratoga Springs and surrounding communities.
Nonprofit community arts organizations located in the Saratoga Springs area may apply for grants ranging from $1,000 to $5,000.
To qualify, an organization’s primary activity must include the production or presentation of visual or performing arts, including music, dance, theater, art, literature, media and film. Projects must engage Skidmore students, faculty or staff in a significant way to further Skidmore’s mission of education and development in the arts. Funds can be used for artistic fees, materials used in production or performance, or as stipends for Skidmore student internships.
This is the program’s second year.
Organizations interested in applying for funds should email proposals to Paul Calhoun, dean of special programs, at pcalhoun@skidmore.edu.
Proposals should include exhibits and must be received by Jan. 31. The Skidmore Arts Planning Group will review all proposals and decisions will be made by Feb. 28, 2018.
Last year, Skidmore supported the work of 14 arts groups including Saratoga Arts Fest, Saratoga Shakespeare, Saratoga Film Forum and the Dance Alliance.
“Skidmore’s very generous grant allowed college choreographers to hone their teaching skills so students with individual needs could execute a range of simple to complex movement patterns within their ability levels,” said Mary Anne Fantauzzi, Dance Alliance president. “The grant fostered the choreographic talents of Skidmore dance majors and minors by allowing them to create original works for a troupe of 35 to 40 multiple-handicapped teens who attend high school in Saratoga Springs.”
