District names interim official
SOUTH GLENS FALLS, N.Y. » Ballston Lake resident Jon G. Hunter has been selected interim superintendent of South Glens Falls Central Schools.
The school board is expected to formalize the appointment at its Dec. 18 meeting.
Hunter replaces Michael Patton who leaves the district at the end of this month to become the new superintendent of Saratoga Springs City Schools.
Hunter will begin work Jan. 1, at a rate of $500 per day, and continue until a new superintendent takes over. Hunter is a retiree, so the district doesn’t have to offer health insurance or contribute to the state retirement system.
Before retiring in January 2014, Hunter was superintendent of Fairport Central School District in Rochester. He was also superintendent of the Geneseo Central School District for six years and principal at Bethlehem High School for 13 years.
Since retiring, he has stayed active in education administration as interim superintendent of Lake George Central School District in 2016, and as interim deputy superintendent at Rochester City School District in 2017.
“I am looking forward to working with the South Glens Falls board of education, students, faculty, staff and parents,” Hunter said in a statement. South Glens Falls is a strong district with outstanding educators and programs in literature, technology and an ongoing building renovation project. I am excited about making a professional and personal commitment to the South Glens Falls schools and community.”
The school board hopes to select and appoint a new superintendent by next July 1.
