SOUTH GLENS FALLS – Joan (Williams) Wheatley peacefully passed away on Sunday, December 17, 2017. Born in Albany, New York on November 20, 1926, she was the daughter of the late Charles and Gladys (Aussem) Blanchard. She was a graduate of Vincentian Institute in Albany and St. Mary’s Nursing School in Amsterdam. Joan was married to Jack Wheatley of Ballston Lake for 16 wonderful years. She was a communican­t of Corpus Christi and more recently loved to worship at Pine Knolls Alliance Church in South Glens Falls. Joan worked for the State of New York for 35 years then retired to care for her family. She was known for her baking skills, some of her grandchild­ren referred to her as ‘cookie grandma’. Joan will always be remembered for her sense of humor and her love of family, friends, and crossword puzzles. Survivors include three siblings, Marcia Blanchard, Jean VanAmerong­en and Mike Talbot; six children, Joan Reilly, Tracy Carpenter, Kevin Williams, Bob Williams, Claudia Hammer and Jay Wheatley; 13 grandchild­ren and 23 great-grandchild­ren, all of whom she loved dearly. In addition to her parents, she was predecease­d by her brother Paul Blanchard and her sister Carol Wales. Services will be held at Pine Knolls Alliance Church, 614 Gansevoort Rd., South Glens Falls at 3pm on Thursday, December 21, 2017. Burial will be private at the convenienc­e of the family.
