SARATOGA SPRINGS - Herbert “Bud” O. Staiger Jr., 77, lifelong resident of Windsor Locks and longtime resident of Saratoga Springs entered into Eternal Rest on Thursday, December 21, 2017, at St. Francis Hospital. Bud was born April 21, 1940, in Hartford, CT. He was the son of the late Herbert O. Sr. and Marion (Biardi) Staiger.

Bud was raised in Windsor Locks and a graduate of Windsor Locks High School Class of 1958. After High School he attended the University of Hartford where he received his BS degree in Business Administra­tion/ Marketing in 1962. Bud was self employed as a manufactur­er representa­tive in care of stocking premium distributi­on of consumer goods to financial institutio­ns and businesses. Bud sold the business in 1988 upon retiring.

He enjoyed horse racing in Saratoga where he owned both standard bred race horses and thoroughbr­eds. Bud also played poker once a month with his Saratoga buddies. He was an active member of the Windsor Locks Volunteer Fire Department for 55 years and an active member of the Quaker Springs Volunteer Fire Department in New York for over 15 years. He was a charter member of Windsor Locks Fire Department Fife and Drum Corps, a member of the Knights of Columbus Riverside Council 26 in Windsor Locks, the Elks Lodge # 1893 in Manchester, the Polish American Club, The Italian American Club of Windsor Locks and the Fraternal Order of the Eagles Club in Saratoga Springs. In addition to his wife, Margaret (Easton) “Peggy” to whom he was married 55 years he is also survived by his son, Herbert “”Chip” O. Staiger, III and his significan­t other, Christine Palombo; his grandson, Herbert “CJ” O. Staiger, IV and his fiancé, Samantha Pepin; his granddaugh­ter, Lauren M. Staiger; his sister, Carol J. Staiger all of Windsor Locks. Relatives and friends are welcome to join the family during visiting hours on Tuesday, December 26, 2017, from 4 pm to 8 pm at the Windsor Locks Funeral Home, 441 Spring St., Windsor Locks. A funeral service for Bud will be celebrated on Wednesday, December 27, 2017, at 10 am at the funeral home. Burial will follow in St. Mary’s Cemetery. Memorial contributi­ons in memory of Bud will be made to the Windsor Locks Volunteer Fire Department, 2 Volunteer Dr., Windsor Locks, CT 06096 or to the Quaker Springs Volunteer Fire Department, P.O.
