SARATOGA SPRINGS, N.Y. » The community gathered together to collect more than 2,500 toys while raising nearly $10,000 for local charities in the fifth annual Toys For Toga campaign.

The event, which kicked off last month, was created by Saratoga Brewery, DeCrescente Distributing Company and Saratoga Convention & Tourism Bureau.

Toys For Toga helps to provide local children with toys for the holidays. Each year the event grows in both participation and overall donations.

“We’re blown away by the level of participation this year,” said Max Oswald, general manager of Saratoga Brewing. “We couldn’t do this without the continued support of the local bars and restaurants and their patrons.”

A record 73 participants collaborated to make Toys for Toga a reality this year. Death Wish Coffee Company traded more than 600 bags of coffee for new, unwrapped toys. The Skidmore College hockey team raised $2,500 for Toys For Toga through their custom jersey auction.

Longtime supporters The Barrelhouse, DZ Restaurants (Forno Bistro, Chianti and Boca Bistro), Caroline Street Pub, King’s Tavern, and Quarters all collected toys and raised cash at high levels. Even first-time participant, Silver Breeze, donated more than 100 Lego watches.

“This is a true community effort with so many businesses working together to help so many local families,” said Oswald.
