AFGHANISTAN LECTURE: Guest speaker Younus Samadzada presents his perspective on the changing character of religion and culture in Afghanistan. The region has a long history openness to many religions: both Sunni and Shia Muslims, Zoroastrians, Sikhs, Hindus, Jews, Roman Catholics and Buddhists. Very few adherents of most of these religions remain. By the 1950s, the dominant religion had become Sunni Muslim, and both the government and warring factions have instituted strict adherence in recent years.
