ALBANY, N.Y. >> Freshmen Jordan Horn and Prince Oduro combined to score 48 points, but Siena Basketball dropped its third straight to open MAAC play with an 84-76 defeat to Niagara at the Times Union Center. Horn erupted for a careerhigh 29 points on 10-13 shooting including 5-8 from three-point range, while Oduro also added a seasonbest with 19 points. Marvin Prochet led four in double figures while tallying his fifth double-double of the season with 20 points and 11 rebounds for Niagara (8-8, 1-2) which snapped a four-game losing streak vs. Siena (4-12, 0-3) in Albany. The Saints held the MAAC’s top-two scorers and the nation’s second leading scoring duo in Matt Scott and Kahlil Dukes to nearly nine points under their collective season average, although the pair still scored 18 and 17 effective points, respective­ly. After Siena opened the scoring with a three, the Purple Eagles answered with the game’s next 12 points and led for the final 38 minutes. Niagara opened as much as a 10-point advantage in the opening half, although the Saints reeled off nine straight points to briefly forge a 30-all tie with 2:51 remaining in the stanza. But the Purple Eagles scored seven of the final eight points in the first half to reclaim the lead for good at 37-31 at the break. Both teams shot at identical 55% clips in combining to score 92 points in the second half.
